find fire truck models
Posted by firemodeler on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 5:21 PM
Does anyone know where a good place on line to find model fire trucks. I have found sites but the sites don't have many to choose from. I found 6 on eBay but I want newer models and not ancient ones. Thank you

There aren't that many fire truck kits.  The old 1970's ones from AMT (3 kits) and the newer American LaFrance from Trumpeter are the only ones in 1/25 I know of.  In 1/24, Italeri does a couple of European ones, (these have also been released by RevellAG), MPC did a 1920's truck, and Heller released a 1920's French Truck.  In 1/32 Monogram released a snap-tite Mack pumper and a searchlight truck.  Aurora also did an open cab truck in 1/32 (that was also released by Lindberg), and Airfix did the Dennis.

There might be a few in the smaller railroad scales (1/43-1/87) but I'm not sure of these releases.

There are some military fire trucks. If you go to scalehobbyist.com category military vehicles, sub category support vehicles, vehicle type fire truck there are 6 models listed.

I think many public service vehicle modelers hang out in the autos forum.  There is quite a bit of discussion there on trucks and PS vehicles.

I would love to build fire trucks from the 1930's and 40's but can't find any. I did find at a model show an old  Heller 1930's 1/24 Bonneville Fire Truck  kit  that I bought for $10. Ebay has a couple of them selling for $40-$75 so I did great. Even though being an ancient kit, it's pretty well detailed including a full engine.

The Samba's a re-release of a 20+ year old kit.

On a related note, I found an ALF Aero Chief '90 for $25USD.
