I did this back in the mid to late 1980S. The Monogram airplane kits would come in clear plastic bags. I sold a bunch of them at a garage sale after getting married 14 years ago.

These were in a few kits that I bought off of ebay a few years back:

This in a Revell 1/32 F-104 frpm teh late 70s or so

and this in a still sealed 1/32 Hurricane I, which I know dates back probably another 10 years. Especially considering the 10 cent fee...

I distinctly remember getting that one in the mail and building it. And I still have a little xacto alligator clamp and file from the tool set...

My Mom signed me up for the same thing in the early 90's and saved all the kits up to give them all to me at Christmas, the planes got built kept, the cars got built and burned or exploded with fire crackers lol

This brings back memories.  I believe I was a member too.  I vaguely remember a 1/72 F-16 in red, white and blue.  But that's about all I remember.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.

I think it was Revell... I remember getting one of the 1/96 Apollo Lunar Module/Command Module kits as well.

Was this the one sponsored by Monogram or Revell, and had the application in the kit box? If so, I remember being a member and getting a 1/72nd HU-16 once, and a tug boat model at another time.

Yup, I was a member as well. I know that I received many kits that way but only really recall one- the "Red Baron" that was the car & triplane combo kit. I'm sorry to hear about your father and wish him a speedy and complete recovery. Nice find though;-)

A find...

Last night, I was cleaning out my dad's house while he's in rehab at a nursing home (recovering from a fall after spending the night laid out on his back in his driveway about a month ago - another story for another time). Anyways - back on track. I decided to do a little scrounging around in my old bedroom closet and found a box I hadn't seen in years. The box labelled for the Young Model Builders Club and contained not 1 but 2 unbuilt model kits still in its' shrink wrap packaging inside.

I had forgotten that I was a member of the Young Model Builders Club back in the early 80s. You get a club membership certificate and a model or two each month or so with an invoice if you wanted the kits. Back then, they were pretty affordable yet inexpensive. So what kits did I find inside that box? Kit 1 is a 1/32 scale 1965 Ford Mustang. Kit #2 is a 1/72 scale F-16 Fighting Falcon.  Everything looks pristine and I'm stoked!

Does anyone remember the Young Model Builders Club back in the late 70s - early 80s?
