Scratch building model cars

Hello everyone,
I am George. I am new to the forum. I would like to ask for some help by people who know anything about my subject. You see, as a model car collector, there are some models that haven't be produced or are too expensive for me. As I have the ability to be a modeler, I want to start scratch building. The only problem is that I don't know how to achieve accuracy on a body of a car. How can I start making a body of a car? Do I have to find images of the sides, front, rear, top and wheelbase, width etc? Thank you for your time!
