Heh - I call kits already painted cheater kits.
Hi :
My local H.L. does NOT carry any Vallejo colors .They do carry many good oils and oil and talc based chalks which can be used with great success as weathering agents .Their regular Acrylic line is quite varied and in multiple colors .Don't sell craft paints short , by the way , They work well on surfaces that you can't do with TAMIYA i/e mainly brush-on ! Their mainstay seems to be the TESTORS little square bottles and Model Master sized , both in acrylic and regular enamels . Kits seem to be increasing in the car genre , Especially pre-painted , simple to build kits .
At the HL nearest me, I've noticed lately that they seem to be increasing their stock of models they are carrying. Which is a good trend, especially since they have that 40% coupon deal. Always a good opportunity to increase one's own personal inventory.
Sadly, it is more likely they just have merchandisers with no clue that are buying stuff like the Tamiya primers and Vallejo colors, while the actual model section suffers. My area got a Hobby Lobby pretty late in the game, and I've seen the model section dwindle from both sides of an aisle, to not even filling one, I'd expect that trend to continue, even with the closure of one of our LHS a couple weeks back.
MJames70 What's really odd is carrying stuff that is of a more advanced nature, like the Tamiya primers and Vallejo Olive Drab paint sets, at a time when the models that are available there are shrinking in quantity & quality drastically.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
The Hobby Lobby near me has started carrying Tamiya Primer. That's good news...for me at least.

I have a HL really close to me but unfortunately, none of the multiple HL's I have been to in different states carry any good paint assortment. I'm surprised they have the Tamiya weathering powders as they keep squeezing out any decent plastic model related merchandise. About 4 years ago their stock was pretty decent carrying a lot of great kits. They need regional managers that are more plastic model oriented to stock the shelves. For paints I go to a couple of hobby stores that carry complete lines of MM and Alclad.
Mercifully my local Hobby Lobby began carrying the excellent Valejo line, just about the same time they dropped most of their kit offerings other than NASCAR cars (yawn). We shall see how long it lasts before that too dies on the vine.
Bubbajoe they also carry the testors washes...you'll find them in the model train section which in the store near me is one isle over...no idea why they have the washes in a different section. they also have a large selection of cheap acrylic paint and oil paint in the art department.

My local HL recently (2-3 months ago) rearranged their layout and the train/diorama materials are now on the same isle as models and model supplies.
There are two Hobby Lobbies within driving distance of my house. One is in Morehead City, North Carolina; the other is in Wilson. Both carry Testor's and Vallejo paint. The Vallejo assortrment isn't the full range (which runs up in the hundreds of colors); it's a standard rack with, as I remember, about 60 colors on it. Nice stuff.
Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.
Really? I'm gonna have to check that out. I know my Hobby Lobby carries Tamiya weathering sets.
The local Hobby Lobby store in my area carries Testors enamels, Model Master Enamels, a few Model Master Acrylics and Valejo paints as well.
Model Master is from Testors and yes, that's what Hobby Lobby carries. If you're referring to the little square enamel bottles, they are on their website but I've never seen them in my area stores. Also on their website are the Model Master ACRYL line of acrylics
No, they do not carry Tamiya paints.

I thought it was just Testors, but someone recently told me they also carry the Model Master line as well. Not sure about that, but as I recall, they don't carry any Tamiya?
