1/48 Douglas F4D-1 Skyray ( Metallic Edition )

Hi guys,

picked up this bird for a tenner but wanted to know if it is possible to airbrush acrylic paint over the metal plating or do i have to remove it first? If I have to remove it whats the easiest way or is it just a waste of time.I want to use some washes as well but as i have never dealt with a metallic model before I would very much appreciate some advise.

Cheers

I didn't know they made a plated version. It's best to remove the plating before any painting for better adhesion. Remove the plating with Clorox Bleach. It should come off within a few minutes of soaking then rinse under tap water. Just use gloves and eye protection.

Thanks for that. The metallic version was a reissue of he original Skyray and came out about 2011. I assume it wasn't too popular if I got it for $10 Aussie. Still other than the metallic plating looks an ok kit.

I just picked up the regular one at the last show I went to. I ordered the CMK cockpit and nose radar. The kit is fine OOB but I got the resin things really cheap. That nose radar really adds detail too.
