I just got into building figures, and iam only aware of a few literary pieces that deal with this subject. I know of sheperd paynes building and painting figures and I plan on picking it up from my local library as soon as I get the chance to get down there. I also know about Amazing Figure Modeler, is there anything else, books or magazines that you would recommend?

You can also have a look at:
Kitbuilders
Model Maniac's
Hobby FX magazine

Newsletters:
The Modelers Resource

Books:
The Garage Kit That Ate My Wallet
Son of The Garage Kit That Ate My Wallet
Revenge of The Garage Kit That Ate My Wallet

Videos:

The above deal mostly with Horror, Movie and fantasy subjects.

For Military & Hitorical figures you will need a different set of Books and Videos, same with Anime figs.

I bought the Evergreen "How To Build,Paint and Finish Realistic Styrene Models", for $15.00 from my LHS, and it is a truly informative book....it teaches a lot of great scratchbuilding techniques, and gave me the courage to make a few parts on my own. And it lays down some basic info on painting, tools, etcetera....for $15.00, you can't beat it.
