Shortly after I posted my question I heard from Wingnut Wings. Even though the NZ Post was showing the box still in their possession the USPS showed it in Los Angeles in customs. A day later it's on it's way to me in New York. I just checked back with NZ and it shows they've sent it on but when and where is missing. The next time I complain about our mail I'll have to remind myself it could be far worse. I also need to praise the quick and friendly customer service from Wingnut Wings.

I had the exact same concerns with my latest delivery (to Canada)...the model showed up safe and sound in just about 2 weeks.

The status is a standard routine with items being shipped out of (and into) New Zealand. Customs in either NZ or the country of destination are holding onto the item on a short term basis (usually 1 -3 days) to ensure all of the requirements have been met before allowing the package to pass on. Reasons why customs holds on to things include making certain tariffs and taxes are paid, the package does not include underiable elements (ex - narcotics, hazardous materials, flora/fauna which may pose problems crossing borders, etc), and other typical governmental red tape.

I lived in NZ for most of 2007 and this is really quite normal. Once everything clears, the package will find its way to you in no time. Unfortunately, the Kiwi post office can't do much to speed things up for you, but their website should still contain information about why packages get delayed.

Shipping from New Zealand
Posted by jeffpez on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 8:08 AM

A few weeks ago I ordered a kit from Wingnut Wings (they are located in NZ) and they acknowledged shipping it five days ago. The tracking link to the New Zealand Post has shown "held for clearance" ever since. Does anyone know what this means? I recently emailed Wingnut but have yet to hear back. I don't doubt the package will eventually arrive but I'm getting curious. Any thoughts?
