US Customs
Posted by jeffpez on Friday, December 19, 2014 12:53 PM

A week or so ago I posted an item about how an order I placed from Wingnut Wings in New Zealand seemed hung up in NZ Customs. Thanks to Wingnut's customer service guy Dave we found the package was already in Los Angeles in US Customs. Today the tracking sight shows it's being returned to sender. After two calls to the USPS, each lasting over 30 minutes listening to how important my call is to them, I found out that not everybody in the post office speaks English and that for unexplained reasons customs in NYC decided to return my package to New Zealand. I live in NY so sending it to New York makes sense but why it went to customs is a mystery. An email to Dave at Wingnut Wings to alert him as to what was happening further revealed that they're now closed until January 12. If this post seems a little disjointed that's because I don't understand what has been happening over the last two weeks and that an answer won't be forthcoming.

It seems someone doesn't want me to build a biplane.

Don't worry, its not just your side of the pond. last year I bought a kit from Poland which was duly posted and a tracking number set. Over the next couple of weeks I kept checking and it was still showing as in Poland. then I got a message from the guys saying it had been returned with a not saying my address was wrong. He included a photo of the address he had used which was perfectly fine. when I checked the tracking number, it seems it had been sat at customs at heathrow for 2 weeks and then sent back.

The guy re posted it using the same address and I got it within the week. Go figure the mystery's of the postal system.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

That's my fear dealing with foreign shipping. You will eventually get it.

About 2 months ago I mailed a box to Virginia from Florida. The USPS sent it via Seattle!! Indifferent  Took about 4 days to get to it's destination after the USPS screwed up and that was mailing to the lower 48.

After reading the recent replies to my whining about customs I decided to track the package again. A few days after my original post it was back in New Zealand but has yet to be delivered because the company is closed for another two weeks. I guess this sort of thing happens and it may be interesting to see how it turns out.

I sent a balsa kit to a friend in the UK awhile back. It was lost for a month before it showed back up with French customs stamps all over it. I retried and he got it within a week. Go figure. Have them try again.
