Cockpit glass
Posted by Blackmaxx on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 3:31 PM

Is there any way to repair a broken piece of clear cockpit glass without the crack showing after the repair?

Or should I try to get a replacement from Tamiya (Spitfire Mk 1)?

BTW - my fault for breaking it - rearmost piece on the Spit canopy.

You can try Tamiya or call Squadron to see if they have a replacement canopy for that kit (would be a lot quicker).  I don't know of any way to repair a broken one without a crack showing up afterwards.  If you can make a wooden part of solid wood you could find someone who could make you a vacuum formed one.  It only takes a few minutes to pull a canopy that way.

Hope that this helps.

At least the Spitfire is a common enough subject that there are probably aftermarket vacuform canopies available for it.
