How about this ;

 Get a bunch of folks to kick in an equal amount and buy them for a Cub Scout event . Or something at a museum's program where the kids could earn a kit ?

Would be really nice for a group build. Get 15 people to chip in at $30.00 and see what everyone does with their model.

   I do agree with you except for one thing . How many people , not into historic planes , would understand what they are looking at ?

If you were able to get it at the minimum bid, it's not a terrible deal. Hasegawa 1/48 Zeros are running $30-$35 new at the discounters, depending on the boxing. These would be less than $30 each, and you're getting a few unique kits, along with the prints and figures.

That said, one still would need to be a super diehard Zero fan to want 15 of them. Even modelers with an interest in the Pacific War probably don't want/need that many. I built the Tamiya 1/48 Model 32 & 52 kits when they were new a few years back , and that was enough for me.

Yeah I did think about it myself, but I have a few of those kits already and didn't feel like buying duplicates. And yes, fifteen is a little excessive!

CN, I think that's a great idea! Building a significant representative of each stage of fighter development in Germany from 1938 to 1945 all the same scale would be a real learning experience.

One things for sure,  you'd be darn good at building zeros once you were through!

A "history of flight" or "WW2 fighters" set in the same scale might sell better than one specific aircraft.  

Man, if that set was a little less than $400, I might bid on it. Nice idea, though. Maybe they'll come out with an F4U Corsair complete set in the near future.... You reading this, Hasegawa? Or maybe Tamiya?

I dunno, I've known some people who build nothing but different versions of the Bf-109!

Unless one builds a 1/48 scale Yamato class Japanese aircraft carrier....  LOL!

Interesting marketing idea, but I think I'd get really tired of building essentially the same model again and again before I ever got them all done.

Very old news there. This set was released by Hasegawa for its 65th anniversary. However, that anniversary was in 2006, and this set was released early in 2007. 4 of the kits were unique to the set, at least at the time, being very rare or experimental Zero variants. All of the other kits were, and still are, readily available as one offs.
