question on Squadron mail order shopping cart
Posted by jgeratic on Sunday, March 1, 2015 10:36 AM

Weekend sale, and after dropping a PE fret at just under $12, and a bottle of paint into the shopping cart, shipping is calculated at $25.

Now my question is, do they recalculate shipping costs after purchase, and send a refund?

regards,

Jack

I believe they base their shipping on the amount you spend and it should be $9.95 depending on your zip code.  Did you click on the recalculate field before submitting? Give them a call to straighten it out.

The calculated shipping charge has always exactly matched the actual shipping charges from Squadron in my case.

I'm a bit baffled, just did a little test, added an $18 item into the cart, fell into the $15-$45 category at $9.95 (or thereabouts) for fedex home delivery. cleared that, added a $4 item and it came up $6-something shipping for under $15 purchase category. Nothing close to $25.

Or perhaps I'm not understanding your question.  Did you select some overnight or fast method of shipping to result in the $25 perhaps?

Should of mentioned ordering from Canada.  I guess Squadron has a special rate for us Canucks.   That is their min rate for their neighbours to the north, no other shipping options.

So headed over to Scale Hobbyist.  The  PE fret was double the price, same bottle of paint, and added the largest bottle of Tamiya thinner.  Shipping calculated $9.95 - with the extra item, I still saved $2 from what Squadron wanted.

regards,

Jack

I was going to ask where you are, Jack. Forgot.

Guess that explains it. Too bad for you, Squadron is a good, reliable supplier.

I paid an arm and a leg for duty when I ordered from Squadron into Canada.  No other complaints, though, so you guys down south are lucky.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

You like to make unsupportable statements a lot. I ignore them.

Squadron is great for variety. They used to have a pretty unusable search feature, but it's been improved.

Whether eBay offers "free" shipping or not is semantics. An eBay purchase is item plus shipping equals purchase, period.

Squadron's site will always tell you what it's going to cost up front. They won't be giving you a later refund unless something was wrong.

Be sure to click "recalculate" each time.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I once ordered only an Eduard paint mask set for about $10 from Squadron and prepared to bite the bullet on shipping.  However, someone there used his head and mailed it in a business envelope and charged me less than a dollar for shipping!  Good outfit !!!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
