Work area in a sunroom?
Posted by CN Spots on Monday, March 30, 2015 1:11 PM

The Admiral and I are looking at  buying a place outside of town. One of my conditions is a place indoors to work on my hobby.  The problem with the new digs is that there are only two indoor options... using the dining room (which we were never going to use as a dining room) or the climate controlled sunroom.  Each have issues.  The dining room is open to the rest of the house and as you know, we tend to make messes.  The sunroom, as the name implies, gets a lot of sun.  So much in fact theta the chairs that are in there have faded substantially.  It's my first choice but it probably needs some type of UV film applied to the glass.

I plan on displaying the finished builds in a case located somewhere other than the sunroom but I'm wondering if a few weeks on the bench in a glass walled room facing the West would have a serious effect on a model during it's construction. All of the chemicals (paints adhesives, etc.) would be stored away from the light as would kit boxes but the model would be on the bench the whole time I'm working on it.

Thoughts?

LOLS! Nathan.

You can throw a sheet over everything when you aren't working.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

True.  Although a sheet might look a bit too inviting to the cat!  Maybe a pointy top box.

I've worked in a sun filled room for years and never had any problems except getting too warm to be comfortable in the summer. Fading from the sun happens slowly and I really don't see it as an issue here. Be glad you have such a nice work space and forget the fading.

Find an old screen door to put on the sunroom to keep the cats out.  I put one on the spare bedroom I confiscated after the last kid went off to college.  It keeps the cats out and I can hear everything that goes on in the house.
