Have you ever bought a kit based on a dream?
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Saturday, April 4, 2015 11:02 AM

    Last night I had the weirdest and most vivid dream that I was making some sort of diorama using the repop of the M50 Ontos kit that came out recently. I don't know why, but I now feel compelled to go pick this kit up and see what I can do with it. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Just thought the different avenues where we find our creativity can be interesting.

Gonna be interested to see if your wife buys into that one...LOL

It kind of makes sense though. Obviously it's on your mind.

Looking forward to that. I haven't seen one of those built up in forever.

Didn't it have a .50 cal mounted to one of the tubes as a range finder?

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Well;

     I guess you could say that . At the height of the early space race . I had this dream of Americans setting up a base on the Moon . Funny , the moon crawler looked just like a M-48-A-1 kit I coveted , with a clear Bubble top no less !

     Yeah this was years ago when the only kit of that was MONOGRAM'S old offering  . Still I had the ONTOS , and the MISSILES with launch rails and the ATOMIC Cannon too . Just as well , I had All the other armor kits that MONOGRAM offered as well as the RENWAL kits .

        So I saved up and bought the thing and created the Moon Crawler as I saw it in my dreams with electric drive and batteries instead of the regular tank engine .Copped a Trophy for a What If too ! Funny what our imaginations and dreams can inspire isn't it ?

All of my aircraft kits are bought based on the dream of owning / restoring the real thing. Can't afford my own warbird, so ...........

As far as cars go, I've got a 1:1 1970 Dodge Challenger RT/SE, all the others will have to be in 1:24 or 1:25 (no more room in the garage!)

Hi ;l

    I have to respond again .I had a dream one time , after seeing " The Enemy Below " Starring Robert Mitchum and Kurt Jurgens . I dreamed about that ship and the seas that she had to deal with , while doing her job . Well , Fast forward seven years and lo! and Behold , I am a member of our U.S. Navy ! Assigned to a Destroyer outfitted in late war fit !

      Now that in itself was amazing .I didn't even know the Navy had any like this left ! Yes , she was a Gearing . With quad and twin forties , Twenties and get this , Dual 5" 38 gun mounts  ! Four of those double barreled bad boys ! Torpedo launchers on the 01 deck and all that . Oh Hedgehogs too  ! As well as the Depth charge suite .

      This was a surprise . I went to the Base exchange and they had the " Buckley " from that movie I dreamed about . I built it while at sea ! Of course I got scoffed at for having toys till it was finished . Then the crew asked me to build a Gearing for a parting gift for our captain . Our captain was one in a million ! You Bet !  I don't know where the model is now , But I still have a move worn and decrepit " Buckley " on my shelf !

My best recollection of a connection of a dream and modeling was a dream about scratchbuilding a P6E.  In the dream I had an innovative idea for the fuselage construction.  I remembered it when I woke up, and indeed built the model.
