PE Manufactures

Ok I know Gold Medal Models and Toms Modelworks are known for their PE, does anyone know if they do custom PE or if there is a company that makes custom PE? Please keep in mind I'm not the best at scratch building let alone scratch building PE. I'm getting ready to buy a 1/700 Avenger Class Mine Hunter from Shapeways and wanted to see if there was any way to get PE for it.

I did a search and could not even find the kit. Is it an old one. It could be possible that there is nothing for that kit.

I sure don't see any. It would be a very small market.(pun intended)

Shapeways probably has a Facebook page. You might ask them.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Bish,

No it isn't an old kit. I'm buying one of the 1/700 scale 3D printed models to see if it is worth further purchases. There is one shop on there called Dutch Fleet Naval Miniatures that has a lot of one offs and supply and civilian vessels. I'm getting one of the lower costing "kits" to test it out before I purchase a higher price "kit". That's why I'm looking to see if there might be a company that does custom PE. GM you are just on a roll today with the jokes....lol.

Right, I see. I have never come across company's that make custom PE. There is certainly PE in that scale, WEM used to do it. But for one off models or very small runs, that would be a small market. Have you tried asking the company that makes the ships.

I can ask. If I'm understanding Shapeways is that anyone can upload 3D models and then you pay Shapeways to print them off and send them to you.

Hello!

I'm waiting for custom PE parts myself... I know of three companies doing just that in Poland, but two of them won't take orders right now, because of technological problems... Have to try the third one! Good luck with your builds and have a nice day

Have you considered the possibility of etching the parts yourself? Micro-Mark used to offer a starter set...

I have the Micro Mark kit.  It works, but boy, it sure is an effort.  I may use it again sometime, but the effort is so great it will have to be a major project that can justify the several hours of work.  I have only used it for a single project so far.

I have also used a technique called toner transfer.  This only works with laser printers or copiers. I have used that for a couple of projects. It works, but does not give the sharpness and small detail of the photo based process used in the MM kit.  It is, however, much quicker- about half the steps.
