Evilbay strikes again...LOL
Posted by Souda99 on Saturday, June 27, 2015 11:50 PM

Evilbay aka eBay has struck again. In all seriousness I'm not complaining, I managed to score four 1/72 scale kits for under $40. Which is nice since I need three of them for a dio that I'm planning. Now I just need to find the other thirteen for the dio and the accessories. The hard part is going to be finding decals for the dio.

TB

I'm going to attempt to make 16 dios that combine into one large dio (Hopefully). I have gotten most of the kits and accessories that I need tracked down with a few exceptions. I'm going to hit up the folks in the aircraft section for some suggestion though. Wish me luck since I haven't really done a aircraft model in about 15 years.

I do wish you luck for this heady and ambitious project. I'm far too lazy for all that.

I'm planning on doing a dio of a Japanese anime called Area 88. Right now I'm trying to track down some PE ladders for the Crusaders and the revetments. I'm also trying to find the decals for the tails of some of the planes. If anyone is interested you can find Area 88 on netflix.

Ebay - hate it! Next time, watch an item that's too good to be true. Just as the final minutes wind down, you will see bids shoot out of control. I'll bet dollars for donuts, the seller has a buddy working for him placing bids so it doesn't sell too low. Sad fact, that buddy doesn't have to pay for the item. Either that, there is a sniper app for bidding.

I have a love-hate relationship with eBay.  I can't count the number of times I've been sniped at the last second.

Funny story, I tried to be the "sniper" one time.  The current bid was $20 or something and bid I $100.00 with 5 seconds left  for a Black Box resin cockpit, or something like that thinking It'd be a slam dunk....and it was, but the previous bidder must have had the same idea and I ended up spending $85 on the damn thing....

And then you have the rare scenarios like I saw Friday.  A seller bought a stash from someone.  Maybe an estate sale or such, and listed the kits without any real knowledge of the subject.  All the items had a "Make offer" option.  I made an offer on the Hasegawa 1/48 EA-18G and scored it immediately for $30.   That was a good day.

Nice!

I actually have been quite happy with ebay.  Other than a few damaged boxes its been quite a fun place to get goodies!  I think I have 844 transactions & 100% positive score now.  Most hobby guys seem pretty honest fellows.

I know the series and have the DVDs.  It's a good story.  I used to have a couple kits in 1/100th.

As for decals, try these guys for custom markings.

www.fightingpirannhagraphics.com

I've used them in the past and have no complaints with their work. They will print them on a solid film so you will have to cut each one from the carrier.

You will need to send them the design, and the size you need, as well as the amount of each,.  They will work with you on this.

You need to have a sniper account to snipe. That gets it down to fractions of a second. Like Bidslammer I used to use.

eBay is THE place to get really old and rare kits. I have bought stuff there like an AMT Shackleton, a Frog Whitley, and similar.

Currently I buy models on Amazon. Good deals are not hard to come by as they usually have low shipping.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

ikar01,

Thanks for the lead on a custom decal place. I have been searching with little luck. Thankfully I have a friend who is a toy store owner and an artist and he is going to draw me up some of the markings.

Hi CODY !

I too have been satisfied with my E-Bay purchases and the folks I've dealt with . I've gotten very rare ship models in good to fair , unbuilt condition for Non - Collectors prices .

I have yet to get gouged by any of the sellers I've dealt with and the ones I did deal with , did not lie about the condition of their product

Here's my Ebay prize of the month. 1/48 Italeri A-20G (repop of the AMT kit except Italeri casts it in better plastic and packages much nicer decals) for $18.50 USD shipped to my door. Open the sucker up, and for some reason someone put Microscale 48-45 (B-29 sheet I would easily pay 10-12 bucks for) in the box with it. Boom.

I know thus us an older thread but... ebay score 1st win 72nd Academy Spitfire XIV $7.00 2nd win 72nd Hasegawa AV-8A $10.00 and 3rd win all 72nd Hasegawa T-34A A-4F and Harrier GR.1 $12.00 all with shipping included. And then the funny thing is she shipped all three auctions separately.

I got burned by a seller on ebay recently. First off, I know I said I hate ebay and won't use it. In the past, I have scored 2 items on ebay by asking the seller if they would accept an alternative form of payment of a bank check or money order because I prefer not to use paypal/credit. End of story. Both sellers told me they would and both sent the items I made offers on.

Now, to the recent seller. in early November, I asked the seller regarding an alternative payment choice before placing the offer on a kit. He PMed me he would but will not hold the item unless I send the payment. Fair enough. I sent a baank chaeck totalling $50 for the kit. Knowing it would take about a week by snail mail to the west coast (Oregon to be exact) since I live in New York State.

A week go by, I inquired about him getting the check. He told me he hasn't seen it yet.

I wait a few more days and inquired again. He claims hasn't seen yet and tells me it's the "time of year" he gets really busy. This is now 1 1/2 week before Thanksgiving.

I wait another few days and by then I'm really getting suspicious. I inquired a final time. He tells me he STILL hasn't got the check yet. Now I'm concerned. I get a notice from ebay to pay for the item. I contacted ebay regarding the seller about my situation. Ebay sent a notice if I haven't received the item paid for by the 19th, I can ask ebay to step in on my behalf.

An hour go by, I check my messages on ebay. Ebay carefully reviewed my case and would you know it? Ebay has sided with the SELLER, not me! BULL$***!!!! Now I'm really pissed off. I fired a final message to the seller to enjoy the $50 check and called him a thief!

I even filled out the survey on ebay's handling of my case. I gave them a poor rating on ebay for handling my case. I even went as far as calling them an embarassment to customer service without listening to my side of the story. I also suggested that ebay add a Customer Support chat on their site. Doing so would be a whole lot easier than making a phone call to appeal a case or whatever reason it may be

By then i was in the process of gathering all PM correspondences between me and the seller and contacting my credit union if the seller had cashed in the check.

Before I even got to my credit union, lo and behold, I get a PM from the seller. After 3 weeks, he finally finds the check and "blames the USPS" and apologizes for the mess and hardship he caused me. He asked if I still wanted the item I paid for or to return my check.

I chose to have the check returned because of his poor customer service. Now let's see if he keeps his word and returns my check.

I know many of you who do use ebay use paypal for payments but I prefer not to use paypal for personal reasons. I don't trust ebay's security when it comes to using paypal on their site especially after a security breach a few years ago with Paypal and ebay.

On the scales of Justice I would have to side with ebay and the seller on this one. I'm assuming the check was never cashed. Playing the devils advocate from ebays position they have no proof you sent the check. They also have no proof that the seller did or did not receive the check. No evidence the check was cashed puts the favor in the sellers court. Now had the checked been cashed and the seller claiming he never received it then you have a case.

In this situation I do believe ebay should at least suspend the non payment claim and hence a mark against you until it has been resolved.

Payment by check has always created these kinds of problems. Adding the postal service to the mix doesnt help.

This afternoon, the check came in the mail from the seller I was burned by. I'm a happy camper now.

Now how come it took a 5 days for my check to get here and it took the seller to finally get my check when I sent the payment?

mitsdude -

I disagree. Ebay should hear BOTH sides of the story, I was readyto appeal my case after their final decision. I had copies, I was going to head to my credit union to investigate whether or not the check was cashed. If it had, that was all the evidence I needed and proof the seller was dishonnest with me.

Explain to me why it took 5 days to get the check returned back to me and him 3 weeks to get my payment when I know it took about 5 days to get there? I firmly believe the seller didn't want to take the initiative to find the check. To me, that is poor customer service; end of story.
