                        Have you ever purchased a kit knowing you were not going to build it? This happened to me back in the late 80s while stationed in Indiana. I went to the local hobby store looking for an armor project and walked out with a corvette. As soon as I saw the box I knew I was Going to purchase the kit and not build it. The box indicated 429 CORVETTE. Well, the 429 is a FORD engine. It was a miss print, it was supposed to say 427. Only a few hundred made it to the streets before the correction was made. Just wondering if anyone else has stories?

                        Blush [:I]Yep! Been there; done that. Many years ago I bought the Billy Carter pickup truck (even though I'm not a car afficianado). I just got a kick out of it and even had a can of Billy Beer to accompany the kit.

                        Well...the kit is still in its box. The beer has passed on to a better place.

                        Yep, did that so many times with car kits. I get bored of a subject sometimes, and just want something different. I'll go into the hobby store, look around, pick up something totally bizzare, come home, ogle the pieces inside, never touch it again!
                        I have a few sitting around, gathering dust. I give them to my younger brother in hopes that maybe he'll pick up the hobby too!

                        Yup, did that with a whole bunch of kits, then gave them all away, then decided I wanted to build one of them, bought it, and haven't built it yet. Anyone see a pattern here???

                        Same here, every kit I've bought is slated for construction. Mind you as the unbuilt kits pile up, just when is an other story.

                        I bought testor's F-22 Raptor and thought that it would be cool to build. Of course I am an Armor Freak so I just built the first three steps and it was allready collecting dust in the corner. Grumpy [|(] I passed it to my friend and he's a ship/aircraft builder and he made better use of it. Thats my story.

                        I do actually intend on building every kit I buy. My collection tends to be subjects that are slightly unusual - but it also tends towards growing faster than I can build them!!

                        Every now and then I go through wingy thingy fever and buy an airplane. Well I sold two of them off. Later I bought two more. I still haven't started them, but maybe soon after I get My latest tank finished.

                        I picked up a Star Trek ship a while back at a toy store , thinking it would make a nice change one day. Never got the urge to build it and now am trying to off load it somewhere since the box takes up to much space.

                        I have a Lee cutty sark (about 3 years now), which I am saving when I feel like I've progressed enough to do a good job on it. other than that the kit I've had the longest would be Tamiya's pink panther. and I have PE coming for it. I'll probably do it this summer. (along with my hasegawa leopold and scratchbuilding the german training tank and any others that happen to find their way into my closet, mainly 1/72)

                        However guys, this missprint is still in wrap and worth more than what was paid at the time. I to build what I buy except when I know I have something unique. How many were purchased before they were pulled from the shelf and of those how many were built and the builder knew nothing of the printing error. Those boxes probably got tossed, because who keeps a box after building a kit?

Tongue [:P] I have quite a few that are rare, like my Model Technologies B2 and then I have many that just appeal to me, like my Airfix-Craftmaster kits. I also like Monogram four star kits, I think the lithograph covers are breathtaking. Wink [;)]

                        Might be worth it to hang onto the kit. Might be worth something as it was only a limited run that made it to the shelves. Who knows? Maybe, maybe not. I'm just thinking of stamps and coins in the past that are rare and were done in error and are worth something today. But I don't know if this applies to scale model kits.

                        Woody! You've been in my closet again! Seriously, I have a load of Airfix/Craftmaster and Monogram kits,as well as a stack of the old REvell 1/72 scale planes. Old Airfix and Hasegawa small scale armor kits are on another shelf. The old LIndberg kits with the cellophane window are a particular favorite.                         That was my point exactly. Since then I have picked up other kits. Slowly the collecting and antique market are looking at our industry. Old kits and industry goofs are showing up on value lists. For all the auto builders out there. Who remembers the Moon Lighter Vette. It was a funny car with a glow in the dark body. Just the body by it self is worth $25. My brother bought this kit in 70. We still have the body and it is stored in our Mom's attic.

                        I have several kits I've picked up over the years that probably will never be built. Like my Goodyear Blimp for example, it should be worth something on e-Bay by now.

                        Yes, I have 6 of them, all are Dale Earnhardt models.

                        I have the Atlanta Olympics car, The clear (see through) Plus Car, A limited edition car with artwork on the bottom of the box, Bass Pro Shops car, Winston Silver Select and his Daytona win car.

                        I bought a Monogram Space Shuttle/Moonlander kit many years back but never built it. Since then, I have lost the instructions and I guess it will sit for another millenium!

                        I never really have a serious problem here. I have an 8 year old nephiew, and a brother with a low frustration tolerance, so naturally all kits that dont make the cut for me become "Gifts" wink wink nudge nudge.... Its always a blast to give the lil guy a new kit for him to do with his dad...You know gray hair.....That vein in his forehead that pops out whenever he sees that box under my arm that can only mean one thing... Brings tears to the eyes just thinking about it.....MOO HOO HAA HAA

                        I guess I have to spell it out more clearly. Several of you got it. My son and I have picked up several Dale (3) items for there future value. Have any of you come across anything of worth that you dare not put the knife. file, glue, or paint to.

                        I did the same thing you did Smitty, but it was the Lindberg "Color Me Gone" '64 Dodge. The first couple thousand were issued with "Dodge 330 Super Sport" on the box art when it should have been "Super Stock". Lindberg pulled the kits after realizing the mistake, but not before I snagged a couple. I've also got the Tennessee Thunder transporter / puller kit, some original Nitto S.F.3.D's and a 1/32 Imai Batmobile that went for $150 on eBay awhile back.

                        I always intend to build every kit I purchase. Problem is I'm an extremely slow builder so may kits remain unbuit. If I later learn that one of my unbuilt kits has become of significant value, I may take it off the "to be built" list.

                        I buy with the intention of building every one of them. I too am a slow builder, so I gues I just have to live a looong time to get them all done, plus the unbought ones that I still NEEEEED to get.

                        yeah i found an old revell 100 gun tall ship at the local market for $5 with its hull already built and i thought yep i can fix it and yep i can finish it never even touched it and to this day i have no idea why i bought it probably because it was five bucks.Anyway the built hull was used as a swimming pool toy until one day it was sunk forever buy a 3 year old boy i like to call the model destroyer sorry i mean my son.

                        the only one that i have bought with no intention of building (that wasnt for re-sale at a profit that is Big Smile [:D] ) is the Airfix control tower, when i bought it it hadn't been re-released and the one i got was the early release in a plastic bag with a paper header, (anyone gonna admit they are old enough to remember these Whistling [:-^] ) that one is now in Woodys safe hands and may be one of the last of its kind and i have never seen another, not even on evil-bay.
