Exhaust Painting Question
Posted by Huey54 on Monday, July 6, 2015 9:59 AM

So I'm trying to figure out how to paint the exhaust section (underside of the tail) of my Monogram 1/48 F-4C. I've seen a few pictures but no real description on how to do it or even what colors to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

I recently had the same question and posed it on this site.  What I ended up doing was putting down a coat of gloss black, then I used Alclad Airframe Aluminum along the sides and Stainless Steel for the area immediately after the burner cans.  I then shot magnesium here and there based on pics I saw on line of the real thing.  Couple that with some washes and pastel weathering and it came out pretty good.

What color would you use for the wash?

I'm taking a cue from another site where a base coat of Alclad Duraluminum followed by shading /streaking using Alclad Steel, Jet Exhaust, Pale Burnt Metal, and Magnesium. Burner cans will be treated with Jet Exhaust while the Exhaust manifold with Transparent blue.

No wash is needed if you use this method.
