Thank you very much Eric. Those radio wires always bugged me, they were just too thick I think. I removed them several years ago intending to replace them with something more appropriately sized. Well, I still haven't done that. Maybe I'll tackle that lil' chore and get some better pics made. I love the "between the wars" biplanes (and yeah, some monoplanes too)! Thanks again for your very kind words.

The Lindberg Stearman is pretty crude and not very accurate. On the other hand, the new 1:48 Revell Stearman is a gorgeous kit, very accurate and detailed, and not very expensive.
One thing I recommend for new forum users is to look at the full list of forums. In addition to the section with various genres, there is a section with excellent forums on tools. techniques, painting and other non-genre specific topics.

Lindberg kits, from what I hear, can be kind of simplistic or a little "off" in their accuracy. But I also think that their simplicity and inexpensive cost are great benefits especially when you are looking to hone your skills.
Samurai, you inquired about the Revell Stearman. That's a fairly new release and, from what I've heard, it's just a sweetheart of a kit that goes together exceptionally well. You won't regret getting it. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I've re-entered the hobby about 2 years ago and I'm still amazed at how far the hobby has evolved. The good people on here are very helpful their and constructive criticism ( when asked for )has been very beneficial to the modeling world. You won't find a better bunch of modelers.
Personally, I haven't yet done any double wingers so I can't help you there , but I would if I could.
I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
Thanks everybody, once I get something finished I'll post some pics. Now that I have figured out that my biggest problem has been my cheap Master airbrush, I'm starting to turn things around. Spent weeks fighting that thing.
I was getting ready to paint my Revel 1/48 Mustang and somehow snapped off the mast antenna behind the cockpit...should I try to fabricate a new one or just sand it off smooth?

Welcome back to the hobby too. A lot of the members are in the same situation. The fingers and eyes don't seem to work the same after long lay-offs. As Gary said above, they can be made into nice models with a little care. If you have any problems or questions, don't be afraid to ask for help. That's the way we all learn.

Welcome to the forum brother! There are lot's of great modelers here and much information and experience to share. Lindberg sold several 1/48 biplanes that were originally made by the Impact model company in the early-mid 60s. I know the Curtiss Goshawk, Gloster Gladiator, Bristol Bulldog and Hawker Fury were among these but I'm not sure about the kit you have. Maybe an expert will be along soon to explain further.
The ones that I mentioned can be built into very nice models. With a bit of scratchbuilding and attention to detail, they turn out great. I do know there was a resin detail set for the Curtiss and perhaps for others as well. Several builds are shown on the Hyperscale website:

Hello, I'm new to the form and wanted to introduce myself. I am returning to modeling after a long hiatus and I'm finding that either I'm very rusty or my fingers have grown exponentially. But my airbrush still works and I was surprised that most of my paints are still good, although some dried hard or became a lump of goop.
Do any of you have experience with Lindberg model kits, there is a biplane two-pack containing a 1/48th Stearman and British SE5A at Hobby Lobby and I was wondering if it was any good.
They also have a Revell Stearman for about the same price.
