I just purchased a 1990 Academy kit of a 1/48 F-111A kit #1647. The sprues are grey yet one side has been painted a 2-tone camo. Did these come this way? Or did I buy a used "new" kit???
It doesn't matter that you ARE the best, but that you DID your best!
Someone painted your kit.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
Was it plastic wrapped? If not you got a free paint job
Then the question becomes why a 111 would have a two-tone camo. Did the Aussies have that? It's certainly not SEA.
I have no idea. It was painted dark green and black on one side of every sprue.
How much did you pay for it?
Did u get the kit off of Ebay? I bought a kit off there once listed as new and when I received it, it was partially started.
yeah, off ebay for 35 bucks.
If it was advertised as new, unbuilt, complete, etc and parts are painted then it's obviously not as described. I would contact the seller to work something out.
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
I agree that's good advice. "Something" could be a lot of things.
$35!?! Man, you got screwed.....
Well, maybe, the 35 included shipping. This was the only F-111A I could find. It's a build my uncle wanted done as one he maintaind in the USAF. The paint on it isn't anything I can't work around. So it is what it is.
You did fine. Look forward to the build. It's a big 'un. Was your uncle in SEA or Europe?

He was in SEA where he maintained the F-100D. He was in Nevada when he worked on the F-111A. And in South Carolina on the T-33A, which is another build he has requested!
