Never underestimate Craigslist

I thought there was a thread about display cases or how you display your models, but I couldn't find it to add this info to it. Maybe mods can move this thread.

Anywho, occasionally I will do a search on Craigslist for display cases for sale, as most of my shelves are chock full and it's time to find more display area.

Yesterday I happened across a Craigslist post for a free display case. The pictures made it look much smaller, and I figured they didn't want to post their price in the post title for some reason, so my guess was they probably wanted a ton of money for it.

Anyway, I called the gal about it, and to my wonderment she confirmed it was free. She just needed it to go away. Then she told me the dimensions and my jaw about dropped. It was much larger and nearly identical to my existing display case. As soon as my wife got off work, we took the Jeep and trailer down to the gal's store--a candy shop--and picked up the case. Here it is:

This is the third time I've scored a display case on Craigslist, and the second free one I've found. It pays to keep a lookout there if you have similar needs.

Nice display case.

FWIW, a Google search of "display models finescale" returned over a page of hits pertaining to display cases here on the forum and in the magazine, with the following being the second hit; http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/165521.aspx

I think that mght be the thread you are looking for.

(sorry the hotlink doesn't work)

That looks really nice and free is always great. I got me a relly nice one about 5ft tall by 3-4 ft wide display case with lights and 4 glass shelves from a store that was closing here in central Fl. It wasn't free but it cost me $200, still  bargain.

I didn't get a display case but....I scored 8 8'x16" glass shelves and mounting brackets for $50 at a store going out of business. Also got a smaller set for $20. I do need to buy windex in a 55 gallon drum though
