Have you tried self-closing tweezers or hemostats?

Yes, both. The self closing tweezers don't hold the parts strongly enough (they can still slip out and get eaten by the carpet monster) and the hemostat crushes the part.

How about the aligator clip weighted base adjustable "helping hands"  And use some masking tape sticky tape out over the teeth on the clips?

Yep I depend on the Mark 5 digital clamps. Also, for stuff like seams, I try swiping them off with sanding sticks.

I was actually thinking of some masking tape sticky side out on the self closing tweezers. Never tried the alligator clips. Are they available from Micro-Mark?

    What I do and believe me , I do this a lot . I put the part on Scotch Magic mending tape .Why ? well you can see it and you can clean flash off quite easily . Just take the tape and burnish it down on one half of the part and have that half already cleaned while still on the sprue.

Availble from several sources.  I got mine from Radio Shack as a soldering stand.  They are adjustable in all 3 axis.  I use mine mostly as something to hold props, etc when painting.  I know I saw one in MM catalog.  RS version was under 20 bucks, and most come with a magnifying lens as well.

I've used tape to hold small parts to good effect also. A blob of blue-tack or poster putty has also served as a holder.

I was actually thinking of using the blue tack, but I will try the scotch tape. I tried Tamiya tape on the end of the self closing tweezers but couldn't get the tape to hold too well. Thanks for the suggestions.
