Cheap safety tip
Posted by qmiester on Saturday, February 6, 2016 7:19 PM

Was looking thru my newest copy of HandyMan and noticed a safety tip I thought I would pass on. I doubt very seriously that there are very few of us who have been in this hobby very long that haven't been nailed in the foot, the leg or the hand by an exacto knive which has rolled off your work surface.  Give this a try.Take a small plastic wire tie, wrap and secure it around the handle (front or rear) of your Xacto knife and pull down tight.  Trim the excess plastic from the tie and no more knive rolling!

Hey QM,

I have seen that done before for the same reason you have stated....it's a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

After I caught my xacto, with the top of my foot (blade deep BTW)...I simply taped a short piece of sprue to the handle, creating a ridge that would not allow it to roll.

I prefer the larger hexagonal handles. No rolling. And easier for my old hands to control. Mike
