REVIVING OLD THREADS! VERY OLD!!!!
Posted by spiralcity on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 1:45 PM

Modelmake66 is on a roll! I believe I have been sucked into at least 3 threads that were dated 2003. Who is modelmaker66? I thought perhaps he was a mod just trying to update the threads with some old discussions. I replied to a thread he revived, stating it was a 2003 thread and my reply was removed. So, that left me thinking modelmaker66 is somehow affliated with Finescale. I really hate getting sucked into a converstaion about "What airbrush should I use?" Then notice it was originally posted 2003. Whats the point? The question is long dead and the OP probaly is no longer viewing here. So, I wasted time trying to help a GHOST.

Spiralcity,

I agree with you, the original poster has most likely moved on, especially after 12-13 years. But, it may not be a bad thing to revisit some of these subjects, and see what people opinions are now. Some of the newer forum members may benefit from the comments added to these posts.

Some subjects, sure. but lets lay off the specific ones. Newer members tend to ask this question first, and we have a ton of "what airbrushes should I buy threads? a ton of them I tell ya'. Why revive one like this? It makes ZERO sense, and it has now annoyed me to the point of posting this thread.

I thought I was truly helping a member out, but I wasnt. I wasted my time, and  that tends to annoy me when I have been suckered into this on multiple occasions.

If you can not get the hang of the VL, I have a feeling the Iwata wont be much different. You need pratcice, and I would start with food colors and paper until you get the hang of your brush. Youtube is loaded with videos to help you learn how to handle your airbrush.

The VL is really as simplistic an airbrush as you're going to find. I'm not saying it's a world-beater, I'm saying it is very easy to use, and you wont find a simpler brush unless you stick to a single action gun.

IMHO, Spiral, this is some good advice that may not benefit the original poster, but may benefit others. That's my only point!

Is it annoying that someone revives a 12-13 year old thread, yeah. Is it a big deal? To me not really... But, I can understand if you are annoyed, I'll leave it at that.

Bish, these forums would not know what to do without you!

I think it's a fact of doing a search on this super intuitive agile search engine and getting your query without reading the posting date, just assuming it's contemporary.

I think thats all it boils down to. We seem to go through periods of having a few of them. Somtimes it can be useful. But when the reviver is replying directly to the OP, it can be ammusing. But of course, if the reviver is new, they might not realise the host has long gone.

I completeley understand your point, but being that this is a common question, the forum is lodaed with post such as these, and I was basically trying to help the OP, which frustrates me. It's my fault as well for not checking the date and assuming it's a new thread, but please!. There has been a rash of revived 2003 post. Why 2003?

Sure, but a lot of the replies which revived some of those zombie threads were simply repeating comments which had already been made 13 years ago.

If it was a new perspective or if it involved new technologies, materials or techniques which weren't around when originally posted, I'd agree that it might be helpful to some members. However, something which essentially says "me too" on a 13 year old thread contributes little, except to the poster's post count.

It's never good to bring up zombie threads. Start your own thread for $&&@-'xb sake. After all, the person who initially resurrects the thread does not do it by accident.

I too have noticed lately, that there are some repeated threads. I'll have to side on what Nathan said ....start new threads and move on !!. If I'm so bored and have nothing say in the general discussion but rehash 14 year old treads just to sterr up crap ....then ...it's obviously I'm not buildings models .

I think that maybe someone starts looking at the threads and pays no attention to the original starting date. That hapenned to me a couple of times but realized it to be a zombie thread just before posting when I saw the previous posting date.Surprise

I would like to make a small point with what I have observed on these forums. You gentleman have been very civil with how you have delt with this subject of zombie threads. Those who made comments did not degading the user in question, but made solid arguments. To me this is quite good!

I came from some motorcycle forums that would ridicule and shame a person for re-opening a zombie thread. Some to the point they would leave the forums.

I guess this is some of the reason that many of you "old" guys have been around for 12-14 years! Says a lot about these forums.
