Unusual item from Squadron in the mail
Posted by MJames70 on Thursday, February 18, 2016 11:23 AM

When I went to pick up my mail this morning, I was surprised to see a large envelope there; was not expecting anything like that. When I pick it up, it was obvious it was some kind of book, and I see it was sent by Squadron. So I was going "WTF is this? I haven't ordered anything from Squadron in years".

I get inside to open it up, and there are three things. A note from Squadron, basically saying they missed me & check out our products with this gift, a current flyer/catalog...and a hardbound copy of the Merlin Spitfire Walkaround Balloons!

So I wanted to say thanks to Squadron publicly. It probably won't change my kit buying habits (I have not bought many from anyone the last few years), and my current circumstances do not favor dead tree books; I have been buying mostly digital. But it was a nice gesture regardless.

One of our club members received a book in the mail Tuesday.  He hadn't ordered anything from Squadron in a long time too.  I guess they're trying to get infrequent buyers back into the fold.

That happened to me too.  I received a walkaround book on the M-41 Walker Bulldog.  Coincidentally, that is the only tank in my kit stash!  Hey...have they been snooping around my place?!?!? Huh?

I thought it was cool, and a real nice gesture.  Free stuff is always good!

I got a M1A2 book. Second one they've sent me. Last time I did buy a kit too.

Thanks, Squadron.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Unfortunately they are  in Texas, as am I, so Texas Tax's kills any deal.

I received the "we've missed you" catalog in the mail, with an offer of discounts on any orders made... No gifts... Guess they don't miss me as much as they miss you guys...

Another odd thing is that even in the days I was more actively buying, I was never a big customer of theirs. I ordered some stuff a few times over the years when the deal was really hot, or something only they had. But it's not like I was placing monthly orders for years and then stopped, or something...

Interesting - I received a similar mailing a short time ago. My gift was a squadron book about a particular Sherman tank. I don't recall the particular version it covered. Nice hard cover book, but they did miss the mark - I am not an armor guy, I am an aircraft guy. Can't say things about gifts I guess. I put the book on the shelf and never even cracked the plastic wrap. I also have been receiving monthly flyers - the ones that were not available without a paid subscription.

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

The same thing happened to me.  I recieved a Squadron book, one I've wanted, several months ago.   I've been a customer of Squadron since 1970 or so.  I've been using them off and on.  I do get some great deals from them, but I like to use my LHS all them time as well.  I like them all.

Same here, but I live and work within a few miles of their location so I just go over and pick up my order.  No shipping fees ever!
