Hi ;

  To add what might be a correction here . It could be a form of A.B.S. If it is , the same applies .This form of ABS doesn't like any glues or paints ! If it's any form of polypropelyne it will definitely not be easy to handle .      T.B.

Nope - not vinyl! It sounds more like polyethylene. NOTHING sticks to it not even superglue! You can't paint it, or glue it. You can primer it, but not much else unless you sand it. Vinyl model kits can be glued, and painted - not polyethylene. It has the appearance of a milk jug, and the feel of it - REAL SMOOTH, or slick. However this is a drawback of it. This stuff is slippery. I'm not saying that vinyl isn't but it can be slippery, and hard to paint as well. But I know that harder vinyl can be a chore to deal with too depending on how thick it is, and what design, or shape it has as well. However when it's in a thin layer it is easier to form, and chemicals will adhere to it better than when its' a thicker layer where it resists absorbtion better. This is usually only hard vinyl as opposed to the soft vinyl that models are made from.

Maybe a picture of a squirrel playing a harmonica will make you feel better?

It sounds like some kind of vinyl  compound.  What kit is it and who made it?
