Most folks who bash technology and advocate a simpler life are not willing to give up all technology- or even very much of it. Interesting how many protest singers sing with an electric guitar.

Don> Oh, well. I didn't know what Boeing had to do with Star Trek, but it was a nice idea.
TB> I did watch the commercial, and thought it was just another effort to promote Boeing's innovation. Perhaps if we had bought the Boeing fighter design, we might have F-35s in full service by now.
Jim ;
Gotta laugh , you know .They had electric cars in the teens and twenties .We had flying cars in the fifties . They even built groups of houses with a landing strip and hangars around the country . Why , I even remember when we got Gravity actuated toilets ! Better increase that stash , you bet . T.B. LOL.LOL.LOL
Ha !
Thing about that is , we do have many things , But , we also have a Nimby attitude about things that would let it happen . T.B.
At work, where it was part of our job to recommend what new technologies to invest money in, someone found a quote that we tend to overestimate technical progress in the short term and underestimate it in the long term. That is, the growth and impact of many technologies is quite non-linear. So far in the seven plus decades of my life that has certainly been true. I am still waiting for some of those things I found in Pop Science and Pop Mechanics in the fifties, but am amazed at how others have bloomed far beyond what we were expecting.

Hi Don!
Is it this one?

Yeah, I guess. Somehow on the station I was watching there was a quick ad for Star Trek Beyond right at the finish that I assumed was part of the Boeing commercial. I was surprised at the connection, and I guess it was just a coincidence.
T.B., I'd love to be around to see a world like that, but I only have enough stash to keep me building for around 300 years. Guess I better start ordering more kits, ya think?

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Hi Don !
You think Boeing will sell us models of that plane ? Hooo Boy ! ! T.B.
Hey !
Gary , did you really explore the thing ? Look carefully, and you'll see things talked about in Mechanics Illustrated and Popular Science magazines fifty years ago . Only , those mags were talking about NOW ! T.B.
Saw a new Boeing commercial on TV this morning, and really liked it. It has a Star Trek theme, and really neat computer graphics. I have a love-hate relationship with Boeing, but I generally like all their commercials.
