Anyone have luck getting replacement parts from Minicraft? (updated 9/13/16, success!)
Posted by RudyOnWheels on Thursday, September 1, 2016 11:13 AM

Hello all, I am looking for a replacement nose (part#22) for a 1/48 scale cessna 172, Minicraft kit#11686. The need for the part is my fault, not a product issue. I lost it after I painted it, cannot find it anywhere. Ugh! I am not sure if this is considered a "discontinued" kit or not, as they say they do not support replacement parts for said kits. I emailed and called and left a message within the last week, no reply. I am obviously willing to pay for the part/sprue or a resin copy if someone has it or can make it. I just refuse to pay another $32-36 for a whole new kit of a rather uninteresting subject and kit with a very poor fit of wings to fuselage. This is a gift for a frienD, I just want to finish it. Thanks! Rudy

UPDATE!!! I got an email back from Carl at Minicraft, and he sent me a paypal request for $6.00 which included shipping for my part. Not sure if it is the whole sprue or just that individual part, but I will be more than happy either way for that price, considering I lost the part on my own and it was not defective. I will report back when it arrives, but just wanted to update everyone and let them know Minicraft helped me out.

Thanks!

IF.... you have an Ollie's Bargain Outlet Store in your area, try there. They have kits at bargain prices. Who knows? You might get lucky to pick up another one like it. It's worth a shot...

I know there is one in my area.

I just saw them in Hobby Lobby, some in the clearance bin for around $10.  Take a 40% coupon with you.

GH

I've tried using the 40% Coupon on sale things and they have said no, only with regular price items. Maybe you had better luck than me.

Rudy

I'm building two Monogram  F4s and dropped the nose gear retracting arm of one on my tile floor. I spent almost 3 hours looking for it and gave up. Then out of nowhere, 26 days later the part was sitting in the middle of the room!

You did not loose the part but misplaced it. Continue to work on the model and look for the part now and then as it will eventually show up.

Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!

Thanks Fermis! There is actually one right across from my LHS, ("local is a subjective term in this case") Nankin Hobby on at 9mile and Farmington roads. I have torn my hobby room and garage apart, and everything in between.  I think it may have got stuck to some blue painters tape from the cleanup after painting, and got tossed by accident. i THOUGHT I WAS always very good about NOT doing that, but I guess my streak is up! I will check Hobby Lobby this weekend, and have been wanting to check out "ollies outlet" as well. I know they have good books cheap too. Im a sucker for cheap books. Thanks everyone!!

Haven't been to Nankins (on Ford Rd....never been to the other) since I discovered "Model Cave" in Ypsi....BEST Hobby shop I have ever been to! I used to hit up "Just For Fun", (cuz it was close)...mainly for consumables...paint, glue, etc. until he closed up.

Here's an idea .

See if you know anyone with a Mattel Vac - U - form . That part is small enough enough to Vac it .Then find a modeling buddy who has the plane . Vac the part . T.B.

The owner of the model cave is a member of a model club I frequent, the downriver model car club, meets at the ice rink on ford road in dearborn on the third Friday of the month at 6. I'll be going tomm after work. (If I had to drive all the way from home I probably would not go) They get a nice turnout, probably 40-60 people easy. I expectEd 10 tops the first time I went. people bring their projects, stuff to sell, trade, or give away, even a couple resin vendors. They have a 50-50, and the owner of the model cave gives away two models in a raffle as well. You should check it out Sometime. Everyone is very welcoming.

TB I'd love to have one of those vaccuform machines or make my own. Would love to try to do some resin casting as well. Thanks!
