The Raptor is a stealth aircraft and its paint plays a role in helping the plane remain avoid detection. It's an odd paint that leans into an almost pearlescent finish.

Because colors like Aggressor and Gunship greys are completely flat in finish, a lot of modelers are experimenting with different techniques to simulate the pearl iridescence of the Raptor's finish, including lightly misted coats of silver.

The link provided above demonstrates one of those experiments, where the builder used gunmetal mixed with various greys to simulate this effect using paints that are readily available in most local hobby shops.

Personally, I think the effect is pretty subtle at 1:1 scale and I can't say that this scales down well, but it's a matter of personal taste and how far one is willing to go in search of accuracy. Another example of art vs. science in this hobby.

Since most modern jets are grey, use gloss greys.

Yeah but how do you get that kind of shade like there is on the real F-22? Do you think those two Alclad 2 paints are good enough for it?

Grey camo are not shiny. Pics show it looks shiny but in reality the sun's glare makeys it look shiny. Most modern aircraft are grey in color - not shiny.

I have an Itelari F-22 1/48 scale. I had previously bought two different metallic paints. An airframe alluminum and a duralluminum paint as well. Both were alclad 2 paints.

I was wondering if these two paints will do good to make the shiniest and most realistic F-22 grey camoflauge? If so, then what kind of clear coat will make it look best? And what kind of paint/coat should I use for the nose/slats/flaps maybe?

Thank you Smile
