Don, I totally get why you have that towel there, and I'm going to copy that idea too.

In the back ground in silver is my Bose system.  Yes, Mrs. Toshi really spoils me!  LOL!

As you can see, my tools are stored in a very unconventional method.  The storage items are restaurant food storage containers.  You see, Mrs. Toshi's boss had purchased new food storage items.  Boss was going to throw everything out in the garbage can.

Instead, Mrs. Toshi asked if she can have the food storage containers.  Her boss said no problem, it's yours.  So when Mrs. Toshi brought these containers home, she said it was for my model kit accessories.  I was elated!

So here are a few photos of my work bench/space.  It's located in a computer niche.  I'm really spoiled as prior to our move, I had a 20x10 room to myself.  Yes, I'm a little brat!  LOL!

Just think of the stash you could have, too, Don! Limitless room for kits! LOL!

I don't know how many Dr. Who fans we have here, but I'd sure like Tardis technology for tool storage.  I have pegboard on three sides (back and both sides) with tools and supplies hanging from them, and it still isn't enough.  My bench has ten drawers where more tools and supplies are stored, but that still isn't enough.  If I had Tardis technology I could sit at the bench and reach through into other dimensions and pull out any rack or drawer for more tool storage space!

I have the same bench that Texgunner has and I love it.  I modified it somewhat by removing the large wood vise on the right end and storing it and then cut a piece of 3/4"x4'x8' plywood large enough that it had a 2" overhang on all four sides of the bench and attached it to the top of the bench with a screw in each corner of the bench top (does a nice job of covering the holes built into the benchtop for woodworking). I use a stool for seating (works great but I would like to find a bar stool with a swiveling top and a      back.

There ARE some pretty neat tackle boxes that might work. I'm still sorta looking around. Thanks, guys. Maybe I can post up soon when I decide.

Use a fishing tackle box for your tools; they come in a wide variety of sizes and types.

Yeah, I'm keeping my regular work table too.  This new bench will afford some more working area (yes, if I stand Wink) and since it's about half as deep as the furniture I had, I'll pick up some needed floor space too.  It really is a nice looking work bench, and with a 20% off coupon, it came to around $130.  Not a bad deal...Big Smile

Been thinking about one of those 60 inch benches for a while. Like the size and the drawers but I like sitting with my legs under the bench and you can't with that shelf in the way. The drawers look like they are high enough to store Vallejo and other large bottle paints in.

Good luck with it.

I bought a workbench from Harbor Freight for my study.  It was delivered this morning and I'll start assembly tomorrow.   It got lot's of great reviews and I'm looking forward to having more bench top to use.  It's replacing a tete-a-tete, made of canvas and redwood that was originally outdoor furniture.   That item was good for piling sh*t on, but now I'll be forced to whittle away at the clutter in there.   And that's a good thing!Big Smile

Oh, the tool chest is staying, for sure. The file cabinet is the one that's going away. My new home is 3 stories, with a staircase that requires a lot of tight turns. No way I'm getting that file cabinet up to my 3rd floor loft office.

So, I drove around and shopped a little today. What I would really like is another of these:

Not a bad setup, except doesn't have the space for tall jugs & bottles that I need. Around $120 in price, which is reasonable.

I also saw these at WalMart for a good price-$24 or so each. I was thinking two of these would work:

I guess Black Friday is coming up. Maybe there will be some deals to be had. I don't do Black Friday, but perhaps an exception will need to be made.

Keep the comments coming if you got one.

Thanks!

Keep the tool chest, make it fit! you will regret it if you don't!

Otherwise I got a bunch of A4 File boxes, label on end for contents, Tamiya, VJ, Hataka, Humbrol... etc.,  in a stack of filing drawers..

Oh, and lots of shelving, 3 Filing Cabinets, 1 under-desk pedestal & 8 book cases in a space not much bigger than a twin bed.... Wink

Not counting 24Msquared of loft flooring... Stick out tongue

For the tools I use the most I mounted magnetic tool bars on the wall to the right of my desk. Can't get all of my tools on there, but most of them fit.

Still need drawers for paint, putties, glues, sandpaper, etc though.

I bought an ADEPTUS Wide 6 Drawer Roll Cart from that online giant we all use to store my paints in. Doesn't meet the need for your deep drawer though.

Chris, I've got a top box like yours only without the flip lid. The rest are in slide-out drawers that I made for under the workbench top.

Right now, my modeling tools and supplies are kept in a black metal, rollaway tool chest and a tall, 5-drawer file cabinet. Since I've moved into a house with much less room, I need to downsize the file cabinet, at least. I'd like to buy a number of the same type of portable plastic toolboxes and dedicate each one to, say, paint, glues, sanding supplies, decal supplies, etc.

I'm wondering what the folks here may use who live in small houses or apartments. Anything you can speak highly of? Right now, at the top of my list are the bright orange 'Homer Box' toolboxes you can get at Home Depot. They are pretty strong and have metal latches.

I'd also be interested in something deep, that will hold the tall fluid containers such as Future or the various chemicals like ammonia, lacquer, etc. Something around 1 foot deep.

What's everybody using?

Thanks!

edit: Here's a pic that shows my file cabinet in the corner, as well as the metal tool chest:
