Alclad Klear Kote question
Posted by Ben1214 on Monday, December 5, 2016 8:25 AM

I'm ready for my gloss coat, I've chosen Alclad Klear Kote gloss and I'm having problems finding information on how long it takes before I can add the decals, seal them in with another coat of gloss then put a mat coat on top of it.. Can anyone in here shed some light on the subject?

Why seal it with a second coat of gloss clear when you can simply seal it a coat of matte instead? I don't use Alclad clear coat. I use rattle can clear coat instead.

I just figured that I would have to seal in the decals with a layer of clear. If not, great, it saves me a step!

It depends what your doing after the decals. I use gloss paint, so its hard for me to say, but i find its dry enough within a few hours. Although in the cold weatrher we have at the moment it seems to be a bit longer.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

On the bottle it says 1 hour, but I would wait a couple depending how thick you applied it.

Or 24 hours to be even safer. :)

I decided to go decal-less, so I skipped the gloss and went right to the dull coat. Gave it a couple hours and it was dry. I'll experiment with the gloss in a couple weeks when I start my spitfire project.
