How big is your stash?
Posted by ManCityFan on Thursday, December 15, 2016 2:54 PM

So I just finished my first model since I was a teenager, and to be honest, I didn't develop any skills back then, so I am really a newbie.

I went to the stash, which is in a large plastic bin for safekeeping, and pulled them all out.  Turns out I have 30 models, 15 armor, all in 1/35 scale WWII, and 15 planes, mostly 1/48, but two 1/24's and three 1/72 bombers, again all WWII.  I had grand plans to build them all many years ago, and yet there they sit....taunting me.  Almost all of them are from the 1980's, but I picked up a couple at a show later on.

Should keep me busy for a while.  The Mrs. says I am not allowed to increase the stash until I actually build some of what is there.  She is right, as she usually is.

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.

I have an entire closet full of all types that I've collected by various means. SWMBO has said the same thing to me many, many times but then how come she has bought me quite a few for Xmas and birthdays or just because she saw it in the catalog on my desk and liked it. One way to get them in without "prior approval" is to get them at the vendors table at the contests and put unused raffle tickets in them. Walk in the door and show the kits "I WON" with the raffle tickets. Don't get too many at one time or it won't work.Wink

I have over 425 kits...and that is not close to some of the stash sizes I have heard of in the forums here.  LOL!  Retirement....they are for my retirement...yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Whistling

Too big to count. Here is a portion of them:

Tempest, Tojo,

I like what I see in your stashes. Quantity and quality, very nice!

Ah, the stash - they grow up so quickly don't they?

I have about 50 in mine, and i'm at a point where, despite seeing some new kits that look awesome, i really feel like i don't want anymore (just yet).  I've actually reached a point where i feel like my stash is complete (for now).

I want to get a few punched out next year, and then i'll probably buy a few more to bolster it back up. I'm going to focus a bit more of my money on buying tools now i think.

Good Lord!  I thought I was bad!  I see some of the same kits from my stash in some of the pictures above.  I guess you could call my stash "classic", since most of them have followed me from home to home over the past 30 years.  I kept putting off starting kits because I wanted to do them justice.  I didn't have the money to buy tools, didn't have the right space, but I think it was really that I didn't want to screw them up.  Now I have the tools (although I have to get more...the wonderful world of pigments!), I have the airbrushes, the compressor, and a great building space.  I probably will screw them up, but each build will teach me something new.  Plus, I have this awesome forum, from which I have already gained a lot of knowledge.  Now to find the bench time.

OK, I have about 2,400 unbuilt models.  Mostly 1/35 armour and 1/48 aircraft, all nationalities.  Also some ships and Startrek.  I build models all the time.  My wife has no problem with the models except not to put the built ones in the living room or on the grand piano.  I've been since the the late 1950's so it's so it's part of who I am.  Not that is a big deal.

Mine is around the 200 mark. I have not counted it in a while, but forsome reason, itdoesn't seem to go down much.

Its mostly 72nd aircraft, then 35th German armour, Sci-Fi, 32nd German aircraft and a few ships.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

You my friend, are rare in the modeling world. Out of curiousity, have you ever been to a model show? All modelers I know buy a few kits at every show. At 4-5 shows a year, they build a stash in no time. If you can go to a show and not buy a model (or just one model) then you must have the discipline of a zen monk. Smile

When I see a model I 've been wanting at a good discount I just hafta buy it.

The IPMS shows have a lot to do with that as I get most of my models there for the year, but I never seem to complete them all as I intended. Being retired, I figured I would have ample time for modeling but car repair, boat repair and hurricane Mathew have certainly had their say in limiting my bench time.

My stash has grown to 50 and i never thought it would get so big. Also, thanks to Eagle90 and Mustang, it grew by 9 or 10 models overnight .

Mine is at the largest it's ever been.  I counted it last week and it's up to 20 kits.  Eighteen of them are 1/48 U.S. aircraft and I've got a couple of NASCAR kits that I'll build for my nephews.

I think at 200, you pretty much are a hobby store.  At 1,000, you are a warehouse, and at 5,000, you are a distributor!

Vendor tables at shows are the best opportunity to pick up kits really cheap, no tax or shipping charges.

Wow, guess I'm in the middle then, probably somewhere about 250 I'd guesstimate...

I'm purged out some stuff like most of my German stuff but still I seem to keep adding five for everything I give away or donate to our club raffle. I'm down to mostly American and Japanese Second World War subjects. I'd never thought we had so much hardware between us.
