High dollar vs Euro
Posted by Don Stauffer on Thursday, December 22, 2016 9:12 AM

I have been noticing the strength of the dollar and the weakness of the Euro lately.  Does that mean we in US will be paying less on kits from Europe soon?

Believe me.  I've been wondering that as well.  If the retail shops didn't pass the savings onto us, I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

Try buying with UK £ pounds...

it's dropped by 17% against the USD $ & 20% against the € Euro
There has been a slight 'dead cat bounce' though  Surprise

I was suprised when I went to Canada recently how strong the dollar was. It was like everything was 20% to 30% off. I recently bought a couple of kits on Ebay from Canada and the UK as well with a nice discount. Nice suprise... for me at least.

Blame it on Bretix....

Blame?  From our perspective, that would be credit.

Sounds like it'd be a good time to order things from Eduard and CMK.

Maybe, it depends on the web store, and which currency they use for international orders.  Some are smart and keep prices listed in US dollars.  That way if their home country currency goes down, they don`t lose out on sales.

A few weeks ago was looking at web store in Poland, and using their currency pull down menu choices, I could save as much $5.20 CAN on a kit in the thirty dollar range if opting with the Polish Zloty, as opposed to going with the Euro, or most expensive US.

regards,

Jack

I ordered some stuff from HobbyLink Japan about a week or so ago and the US dollar seems to be up vs. the yen as well.

It really just makes our exports more expensive.
