Planning something a little different
Posted by goldhammer on Sunday, January 29, 2017 3:22 PM

I got a Hobby Boss 1/35 GMC duece and a half with the hard cab and .50 cal.  Thought hit me on the way home from central Oregon to do it as a surplus into civilian life rig.  Keep the spare tire rack, eliminate the side racks (keeping the rest of the bed), scratching a camper conversion. Keep the mil paint on the inside and under carriage, another non-mil color on the exterior.  Set it in a dio/vignette as an elk hunting camp with a couple of model r/r evergreens and fall foilage type trees, meat pole with bagged elk 1/4's, rock fire ring, etc.

Hello!

Sounds good. Kinda pity it isn't in 1/24 or 1/25, then you could find some more ready made stuff for civilian life. Guess them hunters will have to depend heavily on army surplus stuff... Good luck with your project and have a nice day

Yeah, they are going to have to get by with scoped Garands from the Tamiya weapons set.  But since they are 30-06 they are acceptable.  I hunted for a few years with an '03 Springfield and still have Dad's 30-40 Krag.

Probably can't find my old Montgomery Wards 7mm.

I've seen military versions with radio cabins and hospital cabins. Maybe it started life as one of those.

Of course the deer'll hear it coming ten miles away.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Was originally thinking along the lines of the old Alaskan "pop up" camper (three segment sides middle segment either canvas or hardside), but your thought would be easier to scratch with my limited skills.  Will have to see what the mood is when I get that far into it.

The elk is the easy part.....going to use one of the cast ones you can find in the farm store/gift shop animal collection area.  They make them in various sizes, and the plus side is they are already painted.
