Sounds pretty cool, please keep us posted!

I have the Testors SR-75 in my stash (gigantic box!) but so far haven't been able to find the XR-7. Sad

Years ago, Testors did the SR-75 Penetrator and also did the XR-7 Thunderdart that could be mated together as part of the top secret Aurora project. I have both somewhere.

These are not my kits, but someone on HyperScale did them and the combined build looks pretty good. http://hsfeatures.com/features04/sr75x7pb_1.htm

That sounds like a great idea. I definitely want to build this again.

here is the kit as built.  You can see the parasite plane in rear it was supposed re-supply the jet fighter.  I have the kit you have posted and I thought of using that in 1/72 with 1/144 F-19 as a drone (armed with gundam vulcan gatling gun, external fuel tanks and missiles).   I Also have a 1/72 B-58 that might also get re-worked.  So I may have several versions when I am done.

Hi,

That sounds a little like the A-12/D-21 combo.

updated Orbital Interceptor in 1/48 scale

Good day,

For those of who built models as a kid in the 70's you might remember the rangnrok orbital interceptor from aurora. it was a nuclear fighter with a small jet that would tuck in the rear of the plane. It had two hinged compartments one for the reactor and the other for a missile. Well good old EBAY had several some missing parts but very pricey still.

So the beginning of my idea to redesign this classic kit. i have two version planned on in 1/72 using the SR-75 as the body with another plane mostly likey in 1/144 as drone sort like the old GI Joe Cobra Nite Raven from the 80's.

So here my thoughts for a 1/48 version. I have the uber large 1/48 b-1b kit. So my thoughts are to take one from the bone yard and rebuild as heavy fighter with a detachable drone in one of the bomb bays either like the flying sub from voyage to the bottom of the sea or like in the updated space battleship yamato 2199 where they where on ramp or on teathered telescopic pole like a rhib on a us navy ship. it would have missile pods and misiles underneath like f-14. i would also like to add lights. your thoughts
