PBS's American Experience The Great War

The M1903 Springfield was the first line rifle in the U.S. military until it was replaced by the US rifle, Cal .30 M1 starting in 1937 (The Marines continued to use the Springfield in rifle matches until the mid 1970s) and the US military used the same model protective mask ("Gas Mask" to those who don't know what else to call them) thru WW I up until the beginning of WWII - so a pic of a soldier guarding a bridge with a rifle and a protective mask or wearing a protective mask and carrying an M-1 rifle are quite normal. In fact, you can go to any US Combat unit today and everyone will be issued a protective mask and weapon

This sought of think happens all the time, and it is anoying. I guess they use what ever footage they can find and hope no one will notice, thats if they even know themselves.

A while back BBC news was runnin somthing about the creation of the RN's motor torpedo boat force in WW1. It went on to say how the MTB's became known as the Spitfire of the sea because of its speed at the same time show a torpedo boat motoring along a full speed. But it was a German S-Boat. Next clip they spoke about how the MTB's could destroy ships fay larger than themselves while showing fotage of a large warship exploding. The ship in question being the well known footage of HMS Barham.
