P-38 Lightnings
Posted by Toshi on Friday, April 21, 2017 6:14 PM

As you can tell by the title, Lightnings I just wanted to share my last build and a build a few months ago.

I thought the two P-38's look really cool together.  Thank's for looking.

Toshi !

I wish I could do the picture thing . I am about finished with my Tamiya 1/48 scale P-47 . You know the " Bubbletop " version of Col.Gabreski's plane.

It will jump to life for you , in foil chrome . Especially with the fine work you do ! T.B.

Yes, I'm familiar with the P-47 bubble top of Col. Gabreski's aircraft.  I would love to do a foil version of this aircraft!  Thank you for the info and the motivation to do one.

The P-38 is an interesting bird.

There was a sort of love it hate it with pilots. Because it was a multi-engine, the rebel pilots got it as a form of punishment.

One of my favorite fighter pilots was Robin Olds. He flew the Lightning in WW2.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

There was a History Channel hour special on him.  I remember watching it when I saw his mustache!

What a great story of a great man!

Nice to see pair with early and late war markings. When Gen. Olds died and was buried at the US Air Force Academy, there was a large flyby of F-4 Phatoms to honor him.

Every March, the USAF honors Gen. Olds by proclaiming the month of March as 'moustache month' and have competitions at every wing to see who can grow the best moustache, a salute to Gen Olds and his 'rebel' moustache.
