Modeling and Politics .
Posted by Tanker - Builder on Thursday, September 14, 2017 9:26 AM

Hi Everyone ! Hmmmmm.

Hey ! Question .? Why do we keep working a great subject then inexplicably go into politics ? This subject has no place on a Model forum .

I am a champion of free speech , But any forum worth it's salt has rules . Such as no religion ( specifically ) or Politics or Racial slurs . It's necessary , us being Human and all . But Please , for the sake of everyone's feelings and thoughts , Lets keep our forums free of these wolves .

I for one have strong opinions , But , I refuse to air them here . It's my duty to my fellow members to keep it clean and model based for the most part . Lets all do our part to keep it that way , Okay ?

I can't say i have seen politics come into threads that i have noticed. I see religion crop up quite often, but nothing worth getting concerned about.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Because, people tend to think their opinion is right and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Then they feel compelled to change the opinion of others. No one ever changes someone else's opinion in these disagreements. They just create animosity and lose friends.

I prefer to talk modeling here. If I wanted politics, religion or cooking recipes, I'd visit those sites.

I guess I haven't noticed any political discussions since I've been a member.  However, if I did, I would do what I always do in such situations, ignore it.

Finescale administrators are pretty quick to adjust threads if they become too political.  I think it's a good thing, because it doesn't let topics stray from modelling or modelling subjects.

So, the madam at the bordello was welcoming new customers to her establishment, and she noted that most of them asked for the lady in Room 6. This piqued her curiosity, so she asked one of the clients just leaving Room 6 about it. She says, "I have many other beautiful, buxom, and sexy girls with lots of charms and experience in lots of things, so why do so many men ask for the lady in Room 6?" To which the client replies, "The lady in Room 6 is a bit older, and not quite as shapely as she once was, and perhaps not as pretty as some of your other girls, but, as you know, in her other professional life, she was a teacher, and her standards demand that if you don't get it correctly the first time, you're going to do it over and over again until you get it right! Sometimes, it's better to repeat things. LOL

Some people can keep politics out of their posts, others can't.  Also, there is the effect of interacting via the Internet.  I call it, "putting on your e-muscles".  That is, some folks will say things online, that they wouldn't say in a face-to-face discussion.  Then there are some folks who have no filter, and would say things even in a face-to-face discussion.

I try to avoid political debates here, too, though I do admit, there have been times where I was sorely tempted.  But I recognize that this is a privately-run forum about scale modeling, not politics, and that the forum has rules, to which I agreed when I joined.

I talk politics on my Facebook page, that's sufficient.

But I won't castigate someone who thinks he's right and says so.  If he can make a good argument for his opinion, and do so without calling people who oppose him names, then good for him.  I don't have to agree with him.  I value clarity over agreement.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

Yes weekends can be bad on here... there is no adult supervision here from close of business on Friday evening at Kalmbach until opening hours on Monday morning... in the past some weekend discussions haven gotten pretty heated in here.

I realize that this is just a job, 40 hours a week or so, to the folks who run this place. But forums do need moderators, if not 24/7, at least every day of the week. Just in case...

I agree Stik. It seems like it goes out of control during the weekends most times before the mods gets to shut it down.

technically isn't this political disussion? Should this be allowd in the most strict sense? This is certainly is not model related.

I guess the phrogginess does happen on the weekends.  However, it does seem somewhat rare to me.

My model bench is my chill out area in the world, and the FSM forums are my chill out area of the internet.  I don't like to bring politics in here, but I'm usually curious when others do.

Maybe, it's up to the discretion of the administrators.

True... the discussion is about discussions and not models per se... I suppose it belongs in the Ready Room forum as opposed to the General Modelling Discussion forum... but so far this is an apolitical discussion of political discussions...

How do you figure this is a political discussion thread? No one is bashing about religion, or politics. This is simply a discussion. *eye roll*

Well it does have the word "politics" in the title... it refers  the subject of political discussions by that manner... now mind you the thread has taken on no political aspects whatsoever...

I've been keeping an eye on this and I'm happy to see that this has been pretty civil up to now. However, it seems like this may just be inviting trouble and so I think it may be time to put a lid on it. Please don't open the can of worms again. And while I agree it would be nice to have some weekend supervision, Saturday and Sunday are my time at the workbench. We've debated having other moderators, but I trust you guys to police yourself. If anyone is particularly unhappy with the way we moderate, feel free to contact me via PM.

Cheers, Aaron
