lights and emblems
Posted by armor 2.0 on Monday, October 16, 2017 10:01 AM

I'm building a r685st mack I'm tring to figure out when to put on marker lights and emblems if I do it before paint. I'd have to tape all those little things and don't think that would work to well  if I do it after paint I will need to scrape off paint so glue will stick which sounds counter productive. Any advice would be appreciated I over think everything.

Thank you

I drill a small hole in the body where the light or emblem is to be glued. Then I drill another small hole in the light/emblem itself so that you have a part with a pin on the back. Then just glue it inplace using the pin.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Great idea from littletimmy. Also, you could apply some extremely small pieces of tape where you're going to glue the pieces, then peel the tape away after painting so that you'll have paint-free areas to apply your glue.

I second drilling small dimples or holes with small drill and pinvise.  I always do that when gluing to a painted surface when it is impractical to scrape the area.

In my preveous post I forgot to say......

Then cut a piece of wire or plastic rod about 3/16 of an inch long and insert it into the preveously drilled hole's. (thus making a pin on the back of the part.)

Make sure the wire or plastic rod is the same diamiter as the hole.

Leave it to me to give half an answer..... and leave you high and dry...... forcing you to scratchbuild the other half.
