                        Hello everyone, I got a few questions.

                        First of all, I havent put a model together in over 30 years so I am a bit rusty.  My son, who is currently 10, is big into army men and such but he is getting a little old for those plastic kid stuff.   We are currently watching Band of Brothers which he is loving it.  He also seen Flury.  I am going to buy some WW2 army men kits from Tamiya and also a Sherman tank.  The tank is more for me.   I will be helping him put them together.   

                        now some question...

                        what kind of glue should I get

                        For the army men -- I do not have an air brush so what kind of paints is recommended for using a regular brush.  My boy is going to be painting them so I am leaning towards acrylic since its non-toxic.  Any ideas on Brand would be helpful.

                        What colors would I need for WW2 infantry.

                        For the Tank - I'll go to lowes and pick up Flat Black and Olive Drab in Spay Cans and   paint the main body.  

                        What other paints would I need for the tank.

                        Any other things I may need?

                        This is all for my son -- something simple -- something fun -- and it will give him something to do over christmas break.

                        Hello,

                        I have been using only Tamiya glue and paints since I started some 6-7 years ago. They work very well. Now and then I use super glue of some sort. Don't bother with airbrush yet, as a matter of fact I never used one and don't even have it. Yet, FSM thinks that some of my models were  worty of putting into their online gallery Smile. Brush wise, you need a soft one for big surfaces, maybe 7-8 mm wide, another one half of that or so for smaller stuff and a pointy one for details. Excacto knife for cutting and trimming, a small file for smoothening the slight incorrectnesses where two edges meet and a cutting plyers to cut pieces of the sprue.

                        For painting WW2 uniforms, it is pretty much a wilde west question. Which army? Which branch? Which season of the year? How long has the soldier been using the uniform and in what environment are you trying to show him? Snow? Mud? Dust? African sand?.....

                        Same goes for tank colour. Which nation, what environment, how long has the tank been there etc etc

                        Your best bet is to start buildingand show us photos and we will be able to guide you.

                        All of the basic tools and supplies you'll need are available at the dreaded Hobby Lobby. There's plenty there to get you started. 

                        I will recommend a basic start with Tamiya Extra Thin Liquid Cement, a can of Tamiya Grey Surface Primer, a can of Testors Gloss and Dull Cote, the Blue pack of sanding sticks, and whatever colors of Vallejo paints offered that you would like to use.

                        That should be enough to get you started off. :)

                        Edit; they also offer a basic range of Model Master spray paints that should help as well.

                        There is a lot more there than you will need for one project, but you can pick things up for other projects as you need them. That's what I always end up doing.

                        Thanks for all the help.  This is for my 10 year old son who enjoys army men and tanks.  i got him WW2 Europe army troops to go along with the tank.  It will be a nice project for him. (With my help).

                        My father in law uses Tamiya Extra Thin and seems to love it. Great work by the way, especially that rusty pickup!
