Not sure how organized this is but here is my little slice of heaven.  Very limited space in my house so i converted an unused closet to be my work area.  Cabinet on the left is an old bathroom cabinet. i try to keep it as neat as i can but im in the middle of a speed build right now so not all that neat. 

Can't remember if I posted pics of my new workroom since we moved about 2 years ago so here it is.

I don't have any plans, as I already had it all planned out in my brain housing group, but here is how I did it: As I don't have any wood-working tools, I bought everything pre-cut at Home Depot, which made everything a lot easier for me. The only bad thing was the cost (about $70 total, including a box of woodscrews) - I bought all hardwoods (I think they're all maple), as I was afraid the pre-cut pine would bend too much under the weight of the paint bottles. But, anyways, the rack is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3.5 inches deep. Each shelf is 1.5" deep, 1/2" thick and 3' long, and the spacing is 3" from the bottom of one shelf to the bottom of the next, EXCEPT for the second shelf from the top shelf, which is 5.5" (so I can store tall bottles, like you see in the picture). I also added backstops to each shelf to keep the paint bottles (and whatever else) from falling off the back. The sides & top shelf of the rack are 3.5" deep; each subsequent shelf is 1.5" deep, which is just deep enough for just about any bottle of paint out there. I drilled out all the holes for small wood screws for each shelf so that I wouldn't crack the wood by just screwing the screws straight through - two holes for each shelf on each side, then three screws (one on each end, plus one in the middle) for each backstop on each shelf. 

So, twenty-two 3'x1.5"x.5" strips (for all the shelves (including the bottom-most shelf) plus the backstops), three 3'x3.5"x.5" planks for the sides and top-most shelf, and a box of 500 woodscrews.

I hope this info helps you get one built. It's very sturdy once it's all together. It'll hold a LOT of bottles, plus a lot of other modelling stuff. And it will easily sit on a workbench (like mine), or mount to a  wall.

Well, I'm in the middle of building a Tamiya 1/32nd A6M5c for the Japanese Group Build, and my workbench just got way too cluttered for me to work. Som I had to "declutter" it, and get some space back. Here is where I work on my models. The paint rack I built myself a few months ago, as I couldn't find anything prebuilt or in kit form anywhere.

For Christmas my Wife got me a new workstation and a new chair. Lots more surface area and very stable.

 

And now here is version # 3. I added a side bench. This allows more room for building and keeps to work area a lot less cluttered during a build.

I know I posted my new workbench elswhere on this forum, but since "Installing " it , I had to make a few adjustment's.

My previous workbench  " The Trunk Of Death", has now become the spray booth.

I had to re-arange everything..... just so I could have some shelf space.

( I'm about to fill this space ..... with a 1/72 scale sub. )

Kids....I got through college with a typewriter.  In grad school, I had a "state of the art" Commodore 128 with a 9 pin dot matrix printer and fan paper.  Took a half hour to print a 10 page paper, and I had to leave my apartment because the printer was so loud. 

Love the desk!  Not sure how you all stay organized.  Even if I added space, I would just clutter it up with even more stuff.

I like the two pull-out shelves, too.  Kids, those things sometimes held a device called a "typewriter."  Those shelves will be really handy, in any case. 

I totally agree with you.  Something about the wood I guess...

Speaking of typewriters, I work with some twenty somethings and I was trying to describe the old IBM Selectric with the spinning ball.  They were baffled.  Their eyes glazed over when I mentioned the letter arms, ribbons, and the swing arm with the bell.  It was amusing.

Been picking away at things for 2018, but I got a bit distracted when I ran across this desk on craigslist.  It was $50 INCLUDING the glass.  I couldn't pass it up.  I don't really have room for the desks I used to have.  They were 60x34, or bigger.  I knew this one was different as soon as I saw it.  The leg tunnel looked more narrow.  Sure enough it measures 54x32.  Those dimensions may not seem like much, but it makes all the difference.  I guess this was a "Jr" executive desk.  After some adjustment to the locking mechanism, some glue on two of the drawers, and reinstalling my lamp, I can now get back to work.  Yea!!

The small shelf unit was found by my wife on a neighborhood email list.  $15.  It literally squeezed into the space it is in with maybe an eyelash to spare. 

I think the whole area has been transformed and for sure better utilizes the cubic feet of floor space, as well as air space.  I am super stoked.  Back to work.  No excuses.

Since I'm between builds right now (starting an FW190 A-9 tomorrow), i cleaned up my work area and took this pic.  Next week it will be back to it's usual state of disarray.

Well, it's a recycled medicine chest alright and it's still full of obsolete photography stuff that I have no idea why I'm keeping. Thanks for reminding me in that this would be great paint bottle storage area. I've got bottles everywhere and this could be the place!---brilliant!  

Ok, as the old saying goes "A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind".  But I'm starting to think that a messy desk with 6-8 models all in various stages of completion piles all over the desk is the same thing!!!  To ashamed to post my work area at the moment.  Looks more like a hobby shop and a Coke-a-cola truck blew up.   Lol
