Wilder's oils are fantastic.  Small tip for greater control and typically dry to a matte finish in 24 hours.

You definitely want the Mig oils. I use any brand enamel thinner or turpinoid and don’t really notice a difference from the MiG brand thinner.

I use abteilung oils and have great results. I would use the abteilung thinner over MIG. It is best to use a thinner by the manufacturer of the paint in all cases. I do not because I have turpenoid on habd. But I may use the abteilung thinner in the future.

Abteilung 502 or Wilder oils for weathering?
Posted by Kien on Monday, December 4, 2017 9:35 PM

Hello everybody,

I am currently in the process of buying oil paints for weathering. I currently use Winsor Newton but want to purchase modelers oils. I am debating weather purchasing abteilung 502 (mig) oils or wilder weathering oils. Price is not a concern, because for me they are the same price.

Just incase this matters, I use tamiya acrylics with x20a thinner and seal with testors glosscote before putting decals. Then I apply a gloss coat over the decals (testors) and begin weathering. I am planning to use the oils for things like streaks and color modulation such as highlights over panels etc...

I know that if I get the wilder oils I will use wilder thinner.... but if most people recommend abteilung 502, what thinner do I get for that? Mig thinner for washes or abteilung 502 matt effect thinner?

Thank you all!

Kien
