Experiences with Lucky Model?
Posted by mrmike on Friday, February 16, 2018 5:03 PM

Has anyone ordered from Lucky Model in Hong Kong? I've never used them, but their price on the new Kinetic T-series Harrier is a lot better than Sprue Bros. - should I expect to pay US customs duty when I receive the kit? Also, how is their shipping and customer service?

Thanks!

I've ordered a few odds and ends from them in the past, like Voyager PE sets and other such smaller items, but that's about it. The shipping was right around six weeks from HK to Montana, which is the norm for stuff coming from the Far East. All of the charges were taken care of at checkout, so I assume they take care of any duties or tariffs when it ships.

I've never ordered from Lucky Models before but have ordered from Plaza Japan though. Expect at least 4 - 6 weeks to arrive stateside to your doorstep since it comes by slow boat - that is if you opt for the cheaper S&H charges.

The higher the S&H charges, the quicker you'll get your order to your doorstep. No US customs duty charges though.

I haven't bought from them recently but on the whole, my experiences have been good.

You should be aware that when you finalise an order and enter your credit card details, it gets charged immediately, not at the time of shipping. This may put some people off but the reality is that it doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

If ordering multiple items, if one or more items isn't in stock at the time,  you have the ability to request that tney split tne shipment without incurring additional shipping fees.

You need to take note of the stock status as this often trips people up. If possible, only order items with a green 'in stock' status. Items which are not actually in stock can be listed with a blue "available" status. This actually means they have none instock, but the item can be obtained when they next restock from their supplier. Avoid these items if you don't want to wait weeks for them to restock.

Customer service has been pretty good and response to enquiries has been quick. Once you have created a customer account, the best way to contact them is via the "my request" button on the user dashboard. You can email directly, but you get a quicker response using the messaging system.

I’ve ordered from them before. They don’t charge extra from whatever their site says for shipping and handling charges. And my order arrived in California where I live in a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks to all of you for the quick & detailed replies! I'd better pull the trigger before I think of a few more kits I can't live without.

Great Service from Lucky Model and Raymond the boss. My Revell 1/32 He111 was missing a LOT of parts (about 1/4 of the kit) A right royal screw up by ROG as the wafer seals were intact when I opened it. Raymond cracked a new kit and sent me the missing parts, no questions asked.

Buy with confidence.  A friend and I ordered a couple of 32nd scale F-18's before Christmas and had them shipped to my home with their $2.00 shipping.  Yes, it was a slow boat from China (pardon the pun) but the package arrived here last week, well packed and undamaged.  Yes, there was a Canadian Custom's duty to be paid but it was peanuts.

I also purchased a couple of Kinetic's 48th scale F-18 A/B Hornets a while ago.  When I was decaling the CF-18, I discovered that there weren't enough shoe print shaped 'No Step' decals on the sheet.  I sent a note to Raymond Chung at Lucky Model asking for replacement decals for the kit I was building and a second one I have in the stash and he shipped two complete decal sheets.  Fantastic customer service.
