Jeep soft tops
Posted by Armyguy on Friday, March 9, 2018 11:49 AM

Besides DEF Model and Bodi are there any other company's that make 1/35 scale soft top's for Tamiya's Willys jeep. I know TrakZ (vls) and Decal Star use to make some that looked pretty good.

I like the look of the Bodi top and it's one piece bows, the DEF Model  one piece top is nice the two piece bows I'm not to thrilled with.

Any and all feed back on this subject will be appreciated. Thank you.

The top bow frames for the Bodi kit are somewhat fragile resin “Y” shaped pieces.  You really have to hold your tongue right when you install the top. Getting the straps on the back of the top aligned while getting the front of the top aligned with the windshield all the while getting the resin bow supports in place proved to be problematical & broken.   I ended up soldering some brass rod into the necessary shape using the parts as templates.   This proved to be a bit more robust.   I was satisfied with the final result.

Thanks for the input. I've only done one Bodi top, one DEF and a couple kit supplyed top's.

Getting the top on is a challenge and I do worry about breaking the supports. I'll have to give the brass rod trick a try. I like to glue a little tab to the body of the jeep to help with getting the top on. once the top is on the tab is hidden by the back seat .
