Hi Again Everyone,  As I posted several days ago, I'm working on a kit bash of a Visible V8 Engine, so that's not news. I'm at least 95% finished with the whole build. All parts / subassemblies are ready, looking good, and assembled to the motor. Mechanically, everything works very well. I ordered new spark plug bulbs on eBay from a source shared here. They work fine, but the wire leads were too short  to reach from the frontmost plugs to the distributor, requiring soldering an extra length of like-gauge (22 or 23) wire to the original bulbs. Done, but I've had problems with the wire breaking at the edge of the soldered joint, as it's such light gauge. I've brushed on black rubber insulation to help reduce flexing at the joint. The wires running to the coil went together without much trouble. Preliminary tests with the system partially gerryrigged together showed things appear to work. But, during final assembly, as I'm fiddling trying to attach the second wire of each bulb to the distributor top with a small steel rivet, one of the little pins on one side of the distributor that help hold it in place broke off. I've glued it and added some epoxy as reinforcement, but it still doesn't quite work. Also, while the rotor spins well as it engages the camshaft, it may have alignment issues, as earlier I had to saw it open at the glue joint where the top and bottom pieces join to correct an electrical contact problem, but we'll see how things work with a new distributor cap. The rotor works, plugs fire, but I don't know yet if it's forcing the distributor cap to twist off. I found on eBay a partially assembled / incomplete 1977 Revell kit that fortunately still has it's untouched distributor pieces. If a new cap won't remedy everything, then I'll have to swap the old distributor assembly with the new one...Paid much more than I wanted for the new parts, and couldn't  buy only what I needed, but I can't just drop the whole project now and leave it not fully working after all the time invested so far. This build has fought me off and on for the past 2 1/2 months! Now it's fighting me again ...Won't receive the new parts until later this week. I'm getting to the point where I just want to finish the project and be done with it. Sorry if I've rambled too much. ---  George

 Don't feel bad . I still haven't finished the " Visible Mustang " for much of the same problems . You'll overcome them though . T.B.

Hi T.B. You know exactly what I'm talking about then! When the folks at Renwal said " care, deliberation, and patience" are needed they weren't kidding! 

I don't believe it....one minute the plugs work and the next they don't....another broken wire connection, this time at the bottom of the coil. The soldering iron is heating up as I write this.

OK, the broken wire is fixed, and with a new distributor cap, all of the plugs are firing. The cap still doesn't want to stay twisted on, though. Maybe a dab or two of white glue, with a weak bond that can be dissolved /broken if necessary to remove the cap, will work. I don't know if it's just a loose-fitting cap, a rotor rotational issue, or maybe the long pin with a wire attached from the coil, protruding through the center of the distributor and making contact with a leaf spring inside the assembly, is pushed down too far. I hate to remove and play with a working distributor assembly. But progress is being made, I think, as all of the plugs fire.
