Arrgghh! How to remove spilled glue?
Posted by Roald on Sunday, March 25, 2018 1:14 PM

I spilled Tamiya Extra Thin cement on a model, then foolishly tried to wipe it off. I now have a big, smudgy, fingerprint covered spot on my P-51.

Does anybody know what I can use o remove the cement? I assume some kind of solvent?

Thanks!

Since Tamiya is a solvent itself, once the area dries, you will have to sand the fingerprint out of the plastic, then restore the panel lines.

Don't spill it to start with LOL. That being said Mississippi has it right, let it COMPLETELY flash off, "dry", then sand out the fingerprint. DO NOT WORRY I melted a couple of crew figures by doing exactly the same thing.

we're modelers it's what we do

Roald ;

 If the damage is lightly smudged on the surface . Let it dry thouroghly . Then gently Wet sand it with 800 or 1200 grit paper . Gently sand in circles going from large to small and back again . Be gentle ! It should work out alright being as how you wiped it off mostly .

 If there is a mark of any kind left you can use 3-M spot glazing putty by applying it with a flat razor edge or a credit card type wiper . The glazing putty shrinks a lot , But it will fill those remaining surface blemishes .
