Shout Out to someone who knows about the Steamship Canadiana !!

Hi;

 As some of you know part of my young life I spent with Relatives in Buffalo N.Y. One of the best things was Summer time .Why ? Well , My grandma on my Dad's side ( My natural father , Deceased ). Why ? well she was from Hamburg .

 Turns out they had a Carousel brought to Crystal Beach , Ontario from Hamburg , in pieces !  It was originally used in Hamburg in a Kinder Park ( Children's Park ) .

 My father used to ride it when he was a little tad  in Hamburg , Germany ! So , She and I , Would board the "Canadiana" Steamer and make the trip to Crystal Beach from Buffalo every weekend I stayed with her .

 What I am looking for is Any information on the Canadiana and who operated her . Whether she was American Flagged or Canadian  . All I remember , is to me , At ten year old and younger , she was beautiful !

 White all over and flowing lines left  from when she had been a Paddle steamer I think . Anyway the deck had that type of overhang . But she seemed , by the wake shape , to have a single screw .

 Grandma would always get a Mid - Ship cabin for the weekend . It was big to me . Two sleeping rooms and a bath and sitting room . In the middle of the side of the ship on the main deck !

 I could leave the cabin , walk to the Dining room or walk to the centerline area and look down through Glass panels and see all those wonderful moving parts in the engineering spaces one deck below . All polished and Bristol fashion .

 I have , Like the Edmund Fitzgerald , never forgotten the good times connected with my time in the Great Lakes area . Shoot , later , guess where I went to Boot Camp ?

 Still , to finish , I would like to get any information on this iconic ship and her history and any of her sisters . Thanks in advance ! Tanker - Builder

TB, she's got a page on Wikipedia here.

I also found several 'tribute sites' simply by typing 'ss canadiana' into Google.

Good luck with your hunt!

[Heartbreaking to see that she survived until 2004...then was scrapped for 'lack of interest!]

Hi Greg ;

 You Bet your sweet Bippy ! , to quote Rowan and Martin ! She was a very unique type of vessel and I am disappointed they don't have more lakes type models .Not Just two ore Boats and a very few others !
