monthly meets in the uk
Posted by gregers on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 4:54 PM
We all know that this is one of the best damned model clubs on the net don't we?.
here's an idea for us Brits
well how about us arranging to have club meets, we could have them at a different location bi-monthly or even monthly, on say the first sunday of the month. i am not talking contests or anything like that but just a get together at an air / armor or naval museum. the differing locations would cater for those who would find it hard to travel long distance as a meet would be at a location someplace near them at some time or other and it would bring together all aspects of the hobby and not just concentrate on one subject. and maybe this idea could work in the USA and elsewhere too.
how about it guys and galls? over to you.

I like the idea, although the face-painting business might prevent me from doing many week end meets... Also, as I do not drive, I'm rather limited in terms of where I can go.

Sounds good to me!

Chance to turn the tables on my other half who always seems to be away on crafting weekends etc.

DJ you confused me with the 'Face painting', I was thinking Gregers had suggested we all get our faces painted or something.

I never claimed to be bright!

Hi Cirikili, you are more than welcome.
a bit of info for you all. if you want to come and need to travel long distance there are plenty of guest houses in Newark that do a great bed and breakfast, i know that traveling will be a problem for some that is why when i first proposed the meets i intended to hold them at a different location each time, that way there will be a meet someplace near you ( i am open to suggestions on this too) also i dont mean to hog the limelight on this, if any of you guys want to organise a meet someplace then go for it, i'm game for museum and airshow visits. if the meets realy take off i will try and get some visits organised to places that are not normaly open to the public (aircraft restoration shops, factory visits, that sort of thing - can't promise on that though with the current world climate) i think that if we do the Newark visit, and depending on the feedback on the forum do another meet say two months later, or one month if you lot are willing.
cheers.

Hi Guys, heres Newarks website http://www.newarkairmuseum.co.uk/home.cfm click on the location button and there is a map of the area. if coming from the north use the A1 and take the turn off after the one for the town of newark itself (the air museum is signposted from this exit) from the south north via the A1 (accessable from the M25) the muse is also signposted from the A1 this direction (btw if returning home this direction look out for the derelict BAC Lightning at the side of the A1 at Balderton, its set about 400 meters on the left in an old yard) from the midlands A46,northeast bound. Shefield area take the A57eastbound then A1 south (watch out for the speed cameras on this rout btw, especialy the A1. from Manchester area take the M62 east onto the A1 south. hope this helps you guys. if you need specific directions from your location shoot me an e-mail (and let me know if you -or your spouse if she's the nav are good at navigating, some routes are easier than others.
cheers.

I'm betting that Newark in the U.K. is older than Newark, New Jersey. So wouldn't that mean the U.S. Newark should really be named "New Newark" (like *New* Jersey and *New* York)??? (I wonder why we never got a New Guernsey--oh, right, we've already got a breed of cow named that....)

Lawrence, you're going to have to rename Washington as well, as we already have one.

So that's:

New Washington and New Newark!

Oh, and as for Birmingham Alabama, the same applies.LOL

i'm afraid Lawrence that New Newark, New Jersey would be more than it's citizens could handle[:0]

Me again, i will be at Newark, am i going to be on my lonesome?, hey guys you know you want to come, theres lots models for sale in the museum shop!!! am i tempting you LoL. seriously though, how will we recognise each other? if its sunny i will be wearing a white t-shirt with F16s on and blue jeans and if its cold and / or rainy a brown leather jacket and a confederate airforce cap, and will be arriving in either a yellow Saab 9-3 convertable or a red Saab 900i. if any of you guys and galls are coming how will i recognise you?.
thanks and hope to see some of you there for some modeling chat and some food in the museums cafeteria.

I'm going to have to bail on this one I'm afraid.

I was out of action all last week with toncilitis, and therefore missed taking the kids down to see granny for her 60th!!!!!!!

So guess where I'm going this weekend! My mother may be the same vintage as some of the aircraft, but it's just not the same!Wink [;)]

Hope you all have a great time, and I'll see you at the next bash.
