Glow In The Dark
Posted by Afab67 on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 12:38 PM

Greetings To All.

I am getting back into modelling after a long absence.

I just purchased the Addams Family House that was reproduced by Polar Lights.

It is a glow-in-the-dark model kit.

Is it possible to paint these kinds of models with standard model paint, or is it necessary to do something about the glow properties of the model first.

I've gotten conflicting information on this.

Thanks!

I didnt know they did an Addams family house. I do remember a "Munster's" kit or two.

I would primer the plastic with Flat Black.  That "should" keep the Glow-in-the-dark effect from showing through.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Good tip from Littletimmy. Flat black should do the trick.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Aluminum paint is an even more opaque paint for stopping unwanted light, but probably any primer is enough.  The fluorescent response is pretty weak.

You could always test the power of the glow.  If you think it's strong enough, and you were so inclined, you could mack the windows and let just them glow.  If it doesn't work out, there's always black paint.

I had the re-make of the A.M.T. Leif Erricson space craft and it was now a glow in the dark kit.  After I did asome modifications I painted it gray without any priner and now it doesn't glow at all.
