Yes. I have been a member of several over the years. I have dropped from a few for various reasons, and am active on some others. Each has different dynamics regarding subject materials, members, their behavior towards one another, etc... some are more friendly and welcoming than others. A few are pure snob fests.

Yes. Like Stik, I find a wide variety. There are some forums that are focused on more knowledge of subjects, some that are more technical about the hobby, and quite a number that are poorly moderated and are snark fests.

Despite the frequent speedbumps, I've generally always preferred this one.

I belong to a few others and lurk in even more.  The uber-experten forums can be informative, but there’s a lot of “mine’s bigger/longer/meatier than yours“ going on, so I stay out of the fray.  Some are snark-fests as others have mentioned.  I like the FSM forum as it offers the best subject mix and overall civility.

I have joined three others but dropped to only 2 - here on FSM and my home forums is at another. As Stik mentioned, some are snarky and some act like they know it all and your opinions is wrong.
