Ok. the position etc of the front spotlight is well known and with wingnut doing a 1/32 dambuster version I am concerned at their cads that show the rear spotlamp in what should be in the never used ventral gun position.
I have come across a drawing DC72/28 that puts the rear spotlamp behind the upkeep mine in the bomb bay with an attached note that states due to the lens being covered by hydraulic oil from the rotational equipment the spotlamp was moved back to the rear of the bomb bay and mounted on the attatched fairing and this should be done to all Chastise operational aircraft.
can anyone else confirm this?
Also, here's a maths quiz.
the bomb drop height was 60 feet. the front spotlamp was at a 30 degree outward angle and mounted in the camera position on the port side just behind the bomb aimers blister.
Using those known angles and figures, can you say how many FEET outboard the centre of the spotlamp would hit the surface of the water?
If this helps, the distance between the CENTRE of the two spotlamps at 60 feet was 18 feet and they were NOT on a horizontal line relative to the aircraft in flight the front one was nearer to the aircraft than the rear one
